Hx52 set-up

Nice. Im just kind of pissed that this is supposed to be a bolt-on manifold for a gt42r turbo and it doesnt fit the hx52 or the damn hood. Definitly not as advertised. Talked to the vendor that I bought it from said they would talk to there fabricator get back to me and never did. I have spent over 5-grand+ with this company and they have f'ed up my last two orders up and havent really fixed it in my opinion.

I have this exact turbo and manifold sitting in my basement :ohdamn:

Seems like a hassle installing this combo. oh well, let us know how the car likes it!!

i ran into the same problem so i parted ways with my turbo. My wastegates hit the hood, my Outlet on the turbo left no room for a 90 degree coupler and would hit the cross bar. So i just parted ways with it and traded for a HX-35 plus some cash

I will get the results up as soon as its done. I am looking for BIG numbers this year. Im really hope with all this hassle that its worth it.

How much did you have to cut out of the hood? Also looks as if there isn't enough room to wrap the manifold on the 4th cyl without the wrap touching the compressor housing :notgood: . I bought this manifold from someone who was using it on a 2g (he never mentioned any clearance problem) and if you read this post

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/art...formance-divided-t4-manifold-impressions.html

the guy mentions it was within a 1" of his hood.

Seems they mocked it up and never checked if it clears a 1g ROFL

There are a couple manifolds that are model specific that have to be more narrow to fit Galants/2Gs so they tend to be taller but at the same time some are too tall for 1Gs yet some made for 1gs are too wide to fit the other smaller more compact bays.

Always research a part before you purchase it I suppose. Its still a nice setup.

^^^

I understand that, but the vendor that has these produced stated they fit 1g's and gt42 sized turbo. Which they don't without modification, im curious to know if this manifold would even fit a gt42 since the compressor housing is bigger then the hx52 and the op only has maybe 2-3mm clearance with a 1/2" spacer.

The comp housing on a 42R and a HX52 are pretty damn close.. Not enough to matter...

As far as the fitment goes, if you bought this from a vendor, who claimed such a thing I am sure they'd take it back ot offer you compensation to avoid negative publicity..

Seems i was talking out of my ass:p

A hx52 comp cover measures 229mm(9.0") gt42 216mm(8.5"), so it seems a gt42 will fit without a 1/2" spacer though it will be damn close to the #4 runner as the op has pictures of.

So it seems the vendor is correct on this fitting a gt42:) Though having to cut the hood so this manifold will fit sucks!:nono:

Really I was told the gt42 was bigger then the 52. I guess I was wrong. But the exhaust housings are different also that would make a difference too. The Vendor is no help. I dont think Ill be using them anymore.

Maybe this is a good suggestion maybe its silly. But could you slot your motor/tranny mounts to allow the motor to sit a inch lower to give you some extra room?

Good luck.

That sounds like a P.I.T.A. I have the avid racing billet mounts. Let me tell you these things dont budge.

Yea i remember reading a post from a member on this site saying the gt42 is bigger, but i got the measurements straight from garrets site. Your right also about the turbine housing effecting where the sits only way to know for sure is to bolt one up, don't have one though:|.

This manifold is really starting to annoy me!!!

Well, you've probably already come to this conclusion already, but I too tried out this combo(HX-52 + Dark P mani.) and after I had put a spacer and still had other clearance issues(not the hood, I'm running a 2g) upon mock up. I decided to get a custom manifold made of schedule 10. The manifold setup cost about three times as much with the addition of a 2nd wastegate but I got to say its well worth it in the end - no clearance issues, run a true divided setup and looks way better. If you want to keep it cleap you could pick up a Rev-Hard manifold(open T4) that thing for sure would fit in a 1g without cutting your hood.

I also have a revhard manifold, its not bad except routing a downpipe for it is a nightmare. I had a sc61 on it with only a 3" dp and i had to pull the dp off to change the oil filter, the hx52 has a 4" outlet if im not mistaken so i dont even think it would be possible to get a dp on there unless you have a forward facing oil filter.

For the hood clearance issues, did you try to space the rear of the hood with washers? I seen local cars doing that for the looks but if its beneficial to you, maybe worth a shot to save cutting the hood.

They are about the same size in general as I mentioned... My housing that I have is about 9.5-10" measured on my HX52. The exhaust end of the 4202r is bigger but not on the 4294 which the HX52 compares to very nicely. And in reality out performs it and seemingly the 4202 as well although we are yet to have anyone truly push the thing that far. I personally think a Pro52 would blow them all out of the water and possibly be the only one to take out a B&W S400 series. (Of course this isn't including the new EFR turbos)

Lol.. Look at your HX52.. Could you REALLY imagine anything much bigger than that? LOL. You seem to have the smaller 9" housing but either way it goes, its massive! I think youd be better off with a true divided manifold anyways. Try and sell that one you have or just bite the bullet and cut into the hood.

Pffftttt. What?

We went 218mph with one of our HX52's.

Hard to say though what these things can really do. Hopefully someone can make some noise on the dyno or the strip this year with one. We are looking to go over 225mph.

A 1 mile stretched power band wont give the result people are looking for or a means to compare it to anything.. Untill it sees a dyno at full tilt AND a 1/4 track we really have no means to compare it.

Its a great feat none the less, I applaud you guys on it but I'm sure you could count on one hand the amount of people who have contemplated what their car can do in the Texas Mile/Saltflats/Landspeeds LOL. You guys have anything new comin out this season?

I plan to run this set-up like all previous set-ups. TO THE LIMIT!!! LOL. I will find out what this thing will do! My goal this year is 750whp and 9.50 or better 1/4 mile time. It seems very do able.

What are you talking about?? I dont know where you got 9.5"-10" which one is it:confused: take a ruler and really measure it, it is 9" and the GT42 measures 8.5" THAT IS STRAIGHT FROM HONEYWELL SITE. YOU, ME, the OP and biglady all have the same hx52 THERE IS NO BIGGER/SMALLER compressor housing.:banghead:

So did you get it to clear the hood? how much did you have to cut, any pics?

Do you wanna take the chance of being wrong... Again?:thumb: Also we don't all have the same HX52 but that is a whole different story that I'll be discussing in my build thread down the road. :thumb::D
