I'm looking at buying a 96 gst but the timing is off and I don't know a lot about these cars at the moment. I know stuff about cars and I'm sure I could time but could somebody tell me how and what I need to do it?

You would have to take the timing belt off and get everything in time first. It involves lining up a few things to some marks then putting everything back together.

I would consider a different car with no problems unless you can get this one dirt cheap.

VFAQ.com will have your answer on what you need to do.

Thanks for the help. I don't think I'm going to buy the car unless the guy gets the car timed right so until then.

When you say the timing is off, does that mean damage may have been done to the engine, or does it just need a timing belt put on? You could possibly use this to your advantage to help lower the price. There is a timing belt tool kit from Jay Racing for $50 that will make the timing job a lot easier and quicker if you do decide to pick up the car.

He just swapped a 4g63t into the car and thats why the timing is off he said it's almost right but not quite there yet. He wants to trade for my truck and thats why I would like it timed so I could actually drive it and make sure their is nothing else wrong with it. If I was buying it and could it cheap I would do it easily no problem.
