So, here's the story. I am about ready to punt my wife's 1998 mitsubishi eclipse gs. It has 150k miles on it.
The car overheated on me on the way home from work a couple of months ago and I decided to tinker w/ it to see if I could fix it .
After replacing the ruptured returne heater hose, replacing the thermostat, checking the two cooling fans' operation, and flushing the radiator I could start it up and it would still overheat.
So, I bought a Haynes manual and decided to attempt a head gasket replacement and water pump replacement as the head gasket was blown and I thought the water pump was the culprit as I never did see coolant flow with the cap unscrewed.
Now, I have everything off the engine and all I have to do is take off the crankshaft pulley and a few bolts that connect the intake manifold to the head and I should be ready to take off the timing belt, pull the camshafts, and unbolt the head.
BUT I can't for the life of me get the crankshaft pulley off. I have used a three jaw puller but to no avail. I haven't put any heat to it yet. I have given up and am ready to just get rid of the car as I am tired of messing w/ it, but I need to know if I screwed up the engine in the process by accidentally rotating the crankshaft pulley in the ccw direction 7-8 times while I got the crankshaft pulley bolt out.
