I gots mad MS Paint skillz (seriously, I did that in MS Paint...no...really!!)

(I removed the hyperlinked image and uploaded it instead, because some folks couldn't see it. Should be at end of post now.)

And if you inspect the stock BCS setup, it looks the same, but there's no knob on the BCS (the ECU "turns the knob" so to speak).

Enjoy...my nerves are shot...MS Paint is a nuisance.

EDIT: Based on the response of Yoda (steve), I corrected the picture (MS Paint FTW!) to include the restrictor plug. Note that this could in theory be build into the T fitting. I need some verification on this setup, then it will be submitted as a tech article. Oh, and I'm starting to ... ahem ... enjoy MS Paint; I'm a perfectionist, so being able to control (or being forced to control) every pixel manually is somehow okay. And if anyone wants my bitmap with each of the pictured components segregated in an image file (BMP), let me know; I saved a separate file with each component "unmolested".

As an update, someone sent me a link to the turbosmart instruction manual for their in-cabin MBC. Link is below. Looks like the boost controller knob is backward (maybe they re-used a ball-spring MBC adjuster for the bleeder). I asked the guy to keep me posted with more details about his MBC so we can set the record straight and turn this into a tech article.

MrBoxx: Turbosmart actually calls it a "gated boost control valve". Good call!:thumb:

I took a look at my tee fitting and noticed that it has a small bearing inside of it to restrict the air.

Does it appear that this will only restrict air through one of the three "legs" of the tee? If so, which one (the inlet at the butt-end of the arrow?)?

Can you "see" it such that it would show up in a picture? A picture would be nice, like if you have a digicam with a macro setting.
 
I have one of them old school turbosmart mbc. Took me a dogs age to figure out how the damn thing worked but I got it. As stated earlier it does have a one way restrictor in the T fitting. As far as which way you got me I cant remeber and im aways from my car. When I get a chance ill pull it figure it out for you guys.

Yes, the turbosmart knockoff has a restriction built into the t-fitting. The arrows on the t-fitting are off, so don't reference it. Reference this diagram, and you will be set. I am talking from 1st hand experience.:dsm:

**To figure out which hole to plug the boost source into the t-fitting, blow into the t-fitting through each of the holes. There should be one that you cannot blow easily into. That is the one.
 
Anyone see any potential problems with this install? I have the MBC turned all the way down. I noticed when I removed the Stock lines alot of them didn't even have clamps. Everything is clamped tight now. Unless my Boost gauge is a pos. My boost goes a few notches over 15PSI. I can't turn it down anymore. Is my install causing this?

while im trying to get some last minute info on my clclone swap, i would like to ask, i believe this is the same type of mbc i have(not same brand) i have from what i was told, i just paid the bill LOL, a garret big trubo, do i have a compressor nipple pn my turbo? mine is wired like this let me know if it is wrong, it goes from the external wastegate to the boost controler and then the other line is t'd one goes to my blow off valve the other goes to my intake manifold vacum. is this correct? whe it was hooked up before, what would happen is i woudl boost at about 15 lbs, then i would jump on it and i would boost at like 27 lbs, this is not normal right?

Your boost spike is from plumbing the BOV line. Big no no. Unless someone states other wise I think my diagram is right.
 
i also have the line from the BOV to a T, from the T to the intake and the wastegate? is this why im getting a horribly slow boost response?

ok, so i can go from intake manifold to one of my inputs on the boost controler, with the other one my question was do i have a nipple on my garret big 16 turbo+ or do i just go right off the external wastegate, then where to i t that line and go to? your not supposed to vent throught your bov?

Nice diagram but bad idea. Please use a pressure reference from the compressor housing or output piping. If your interested in why, you can start digging in the archives.

Also, this thread is about turbosmart tee style bleeder MBC only.

Re-use this piece of tubing It is located going into the Turbo. The little piece shown in the Picture is basically what the T is. The piece of hose with the Little insert goes toward the Turbo.

Has anyone used the knock off MBC in post 22? If so, any pics? I want to install mine and I have the general idea (lots of reading), but pics make me more comfortable. I have a 1G, but I assume a 2G will give about the same info.
 
Plenty of people have installed it. Not too many have gotten it to work reliably or to their satisfaction. Most people who have issues with it functioning end up switching to a regular ball and spring MBC, such as a Hallman or TurboXS. There are threads about this MBC all over.
 
Yea, I have noticed the countless threaads on MBC's and the different opinions on hooking them up. I don't doubt I will replace it later, but that will come when other, more important thing, are fixed on the car.

I was just hoping for a pic on the knock off cause the T and the controller both say that the arrow points to the actuator, but all of the diagrams people have posted (the ones going jpipe to actuator) have it as a straight connection besides the mbc.

I will admit that there is a huge amount of info on these forums. The only thing I am trying to figure out is what is the best thing to do as there appears to be alot of people that do everything different.
 
the turbosmart i had gave me nothing but trouble ro so i thought, turned out my BOV was limiting my psi. this MBC works just fine but i would reccomend just going with a higher dollar one.
 
big thanks to all with their input here. i installed the mbc last week and for some reason, could not get over 13 lbs. i turn it up and the boost goes down. so i found this thread, went to the site, and the instructions helped me out. i didnt use the pressure hose from the turbo, i was using the one from the throttle body. also i didnt vent it. i teed into the bov hose which i shouldn't have done. im going to go right now to hook it up right. and yes.....that tee thats supplied has a spring and ball bearing inside as a built in restictor.

My knock off has worked well, but I have not pushed it beyond one click on the dial. It keeps me at 5 psi, so I am good.
 
guys,

installing the MBC bleed type is a 5 minutes JOB


the MBC bleed type comes with a T ( DO NOT USE THE T) just use the MBC itslef.

Unhook the two hoses on the BCS underneath the water resvoir and hook them to the MBC ( BLEED TYPE ) you are DONE ................. thats its ( no extra hoses no cutting no fitting T nothing ( just unhook from the BCS and Hook to your MBC)


you can go back to the standard set up in one minute if you do not like it ( just unhook the 2 hoses from the MBC and connect them back to the BCS)

its very simple and it works great ( it took exactly 5 minutes of my time)
