OK i have to turbos that came with this 92 5sd GSX I bought last night, one is on the car and the other is in the trunk they say TD05H & 49178-01, I think they are 16Gs but how do I tell if they are big, little, or evo 3's? Please help a newb..

Somewhere there is a website that lists all the numbers for mitsubishi turbos. Ill try looking for it real quick

HmmI dont know where to find those numbers on the turbo, the only ones I see is the ones I posted..where will I find more numbers?

Interesting, when i looked up my turbo, all the numbers were right there in plain sight...

I don't think this is exactly what you are looking for but here is a bit more info on flow rates and average HP for said turbos.

DSM: Top Ten FAQ

Would an ebay/knock-off turbo have all the numbers?

If im seeing correctly it looks like there may be some numbers directly above the 49178-01..but this turbo has been painted black for some reason and there is so much paint on it I cant read it..time to go get some paint thinner I guess..

This is my BIG 16g. The two series of numbers on the compressor housing on the inlet side are the only numbers that should be there.
Left is the Serial number, right is turbocharger housing number.

OK thanks..well my serial number is 49178-01 then there is about a 1/4 inch blank spot and then a 0...I think in that "blank" spot is where my numbers is supposed to be that tells me what it is..

It looks like the numbers were on there. You can see the top numbers very faintly. Try cleaning it with brake cleaner and a towel and see if you can see very fine numbers. If not they may have been machined down at some point. I try to stay away from them when I polish turbo covers but others may be careless.

Now that I know what im looking for I will see what one is on the car tomorrow..I just bought this thing yesterday and trying to figure out what all has been done to it..the guy I got it off of said he got it in on trade and knew nothing about it..I only paid $700 for the car and it came with this extra turbo, extra transfer case, extra ecu and other goodies..I drove it home 100 miles but it has low compression on 1 cyl but it jumps up after I pour a cap full of oil in it..thats a bad ring right? Im pulling the motor and tranny tomorrow and going to go through it...although he said he put a rebuilt head, new headgasket, new water pump, and timing belt on it two weeks ago its leaking oil like the Exxon Valdez and I cant figure out where from because its EVERY WHERE!! looks like its leaking on the drivers side mostly..By the way the car is a 92 GSX manual..he said it has some kind of "2600" clutch in it thats new...I know it has a nice manual boost controler on it but just a stock gauge hooked up..he gave me a brand new Autometer 30psi boost gauge still in the box though...first thing I did was turn the manual boost controler down cause when I test drove it it hit a wall at about 5600rpm and like cut off untill I let of the gas..Im assuming thats fuel cut? He also said it has a walbro 255 pump or something like that but my nephew who lives in Tennessee said if thats true I should be able to hear the fuel pump singing and I dont hear it at all, of course there is no frikin exhaust on the car just a downpipe so i cant hardly hear anything...this is my first DSM and its basicly a mystery car to me that has unknown mods done to it....when I get this motor and tranny out tomorrow how can I tell if that clutch is a 2600? I noticed the air outlet pipe on my extra turbo is MUCH larger then the one that is on the car, and it turns downward..is that for a frontmount setup? I also notised the exhaust outlet on my extra turbo has two pipes instead of one cast iron thingy..my nephew said something about it being a wastegate dump to atmosphere or some freaky thing like that..im reading and learning all I can about this car because I love it already although it just a big project....even with one cyl pushing just 60 psi and the other 3 pushing 150 it seemed to be fast as snot! I was very impressed..I plan on buying some 880 injecters from I guy I know for $100 and making sure or putting in a walbro 255 pump then running E85...my Nephew says he has a program of some kind and a cable for me but I need to buy a "palm" I dont even know what that is...yet..he knows what he is doing though..his lil awd auto runs low 7's in the 8th...Once I get my engine rebuilt and running good im going to put a FMIC on it, evo III exhaust mani, and a 3" turbo back exhaust...here is a few pics of my car..did I do ok for $700 even though im pulling the motor already LOL?

Nope not everyone. Just people that actually care and want to know. Sorry about all the periods.

Would an ebay/knock-off turbo have all the numbers?

Saw this question hadn't been answered and since I know that I have an ebay turbo that is supposed to be an evo III 16g I would be curious if anyone knows how to make sure?
