How to clean holset compressor housing?

I just bought a hx35w and I need to clean the compressor housing and maybe the turbine housing. I was thinking hot soapy water and a small brass wire brush for cleaning the outside of the compressor the. I might just buy a single scroll housing instead of trying to remove the rust from this one. I am going with an external wastegate and dont want the internally gated housing. If I remove the comp can the inside be cleaned with just purple power degreaser by soaking it in a small bucket? I never had to clean a turbo before.

The compressor cover itself is just a cast piece of aluminum. So once you remove it, it can be soaked with anything safe to use on aluminum.
If you don't have a true divided manifold, there's no real benefit to keeping that twin scroll housing. The bolt on bep or .70 t3 would probably be better options.

Remove the turbo from the exhaust housing then remove the circlip that holds the CHRA in. You are able to clean the compressor cover inside and out real easy then. When done, if the center housing doesn't need serviced, run a VERY THIN amount of silicone around the plate and reinstall it on the cover and put the circlip back on. Make sure it is "clocked" correctly or real close to installation in its orientation because the light skim of silicone will cure and seal it in place. DO NOT USE MUCH SILICONE AT ALL OR IT WILL BE A PITA TO SERVICE and won't make your turbo service person happy.

You can use some simple green and a tooth brush then some good old mothers metal polish to make it look like new.

Remove compressor housing and use whatever youd like to clean it. You can wire wheel and use sandpaper on the outside to clean/polish it up. The turbine housing id either replace or get sand blasted and coated.

The inside shouldnt be that bad. Brake clean

Remove the housings and get them media blasted.

I'm anti blasting with anything except soda. I've found blast media, or powder coat overspray in about half of the engines I've torn down with blasted or coated engine parts.

One of my old buddies had his engine seized due to media blast particles clogging up the filter. He got his valve cover media blasted smh.
Purple power and a thin wire brush worked great for me.

Thats why i only rec. blasting for the turbine side. Any residual particles just shoot through exhaust

Put it in the dishwasher wish a big scoop of detergent. Note: my wife gets pissed when she finds a dishwasher full of car parts. Do it when no one else is home.
