I have a unique issue. I currently own a lancer Evolution 3, running a DNP tubular manifold. Basically long story short, with a 55MM thick Koyo aluminium radiator I cannot run a compressor housing 7" in diameter (think TO4E/S200 series BW) without major modifications to radiator placement ie removing AC. I would like to run a Holset HX35 or HX40, however, the compressor housing is 8" in diameter and in no way will fit. So I have heard someone has modified a TO4B cover to fit..but I cannot find any reference or anyone that can do that. Any thoughts? Anyone that has made smaller covers? Also what sizes? Other options?

BTW...Don't want to go without AC in my current climate, and running a smaller radiator (ie stock) I have heating problems when i rag on it hard in the summer, even with the highest flowing slim fans I can get.

thanks for any help.

Maybe you can find a smaller housing that fits and have it machined to fit a larger compressor wheel.

Heres a link that might help, this guy in owns an evo 3 and utilizes a radiator that sits inside the front frame with little modification.

Do you have any pictures of your current set up? Us DSMers in the US aren't too familiar with the EVO3 engine bay dimensions and relative free space.

ya thats the thought anyways...but which cover and who can do it?

Technically TKR doesn't actually own an Evo 3. thats a mirage conversion. Also he doesn't have AC. So he is able to use the honda half rad and have enough airflow to cool the car when he ran it. As far as the griffin radiator is actually thicker than my koyo and certainly won't work in my current location.

well I dont have any with me at the moment but I can get some up here in a few days, however I have ran quite a few turbos on this car, and I do know that a TO4E/BW S200 series cover is too big to fit with the koyo, and my slim fans. The TO4B garret compressor housing or around a 6" diameter or less compressor cover will work..and really thats about it.

BTW think less than GVR4 clearance. :) thanks for the reply.

I'm not familiar with the evos all to well. But can you swap one of ## puller fans for a pusher. Primarily the fan in front of the turbo?might save you 2 or 3 inches Just my 2 cents. I actually did this with my 1g. Worked out great.

its not really the fans that i have a problem with. Its the radiator clearance.

Search up the "questions for Justin" thread and ask him if he's knows of a housing that would work.

If nothing else, you may have to try switching to a different manifold.

If you are working with less space than the galant vr4, then we need some dimensions. Again pictures would be great, or a rough layout, measurements of the radiator core currently and also the space between the frame and such.

At this point it sounds like you need a custom radiator set up.

No longer will a stock radiator work, you might need to look into buy heat exchangers that will fit in the open areas in you engine bay. Custom shroud and fan can be mocked up. Just depends how much effort you want to put in.

These fittings might help you out

There is no room at all in the cars. Even when I had the 1/2 size in mine and the ac still the pte 5031e would touch the honda radiator.
Easyest way to fix the problem is go to a custom tube core suport if you want to keep the ac and the koyo. With a tube one you coud get everything farther forward. That is what I was going to do before I ditched the ac system

thanks for the reply. Any good examples of the custom tube support setup?
