I have been thinking about this lately as I'm going to be running a new turbo and figured I would like to get a thread started of results for turbo longevity. Please post especially if you have run the turbo for a long time- short time failures would also be very nice. If you guys can follow the format since everyone's setup is different, that will help with the results:

1. Amount of miles turbo lasted
2. Type of turbocharger and boost level
3. 6 or 7 bolt
4. BS or eliminated BS
5. Feed location and hose size/ Including restrictor if used. Also oil pressure if measured and where it is measured from
6. Type of oil drain and size
7. Crank case ventilation methods used
8. Type of oil used and weight

If anyone has more parameters to add to the list, let them fly!

I will start with my last 2g:

1. ~40,000 when I sold it and still in as good of shape as when it was bought brand new
2. FP Big28- 18psi
3. 7 bolt
4. BS
5. OFH, stock oil feed line/no restrictor
6. Stock drain
7. Mostly stock cc vent./~10k miles with a vented catch can
8. Mobile 1 5w-30

Don't be shy everyone:thumb:

1. 140K + still running
2. T25, stock boost!
3. 7 bolt
4. Balance Shafts in place
5. Stock hoses/lines
6. Stock oil drain/feed
7. Stock crank case venting
8. Mobil 1 10w30 fully snthetic

1991 Talon Stock engine, turbo blew a seal at 80,000 miles.
1998 Talon Stock engine T-25 was still working when replaced at 183,000 miles.

E3-16G on 2.3L built stroker in the 1998 Talon, not enough miles to mean anything.

1. to this day
2. Ebay big 16g at 9psi sometimes, 15psi sometimes, and 20psi on racegas. overboosted a few times to 25+ psi when my bleeder-mbc started acting stupid.
3. 7 bolt
4. i think the BS is eliminated, never checked or cared.
5. whatever came with the install kit for the 16g.
6. whatever came with the install kit for the 16g.
7. stock and then the breather filter thing
8. Mobil-1 10w-30

Oil pressure would be a good addition to this list, with the source of the gauge tap.

I would also like this very much, but I figure very few people would have this information. I'll add in something to the original post and maybe we can get some more data. Thanks!

1. 194,873 miles and counting with ZERO shaft play
2. 14b @20lbs for the last 5 years, stock when I got it
3: 6 bolt
4. Balance shafts still here
5. Stock hoses and lines
6. Stock oil feed/drain
7. Stock
8. non synthetic Valvoline 5w30 with 1qt of Lucas every 3k miles since I've had it.
9. No air filter or intake of any kind for the last 3-4 years and it's my DD and sees snow every winter :shhh:
10. I don't have an aftermarket gauge but Oil pressure is about 3/4 up the gauge at full boost

1. 212000 on the 1991 Cummins pickup. Add 25K from my car. . .
2. Holset H1C @ 30psi Ran at 30 psi on the cummins truck too, before I got a hold of it.
3. 6 bolt
4. BS
5. Fed from OFH. Cummins pickup feed with adapter to ofh. 0.078" (5/64") restrictor.
6. Garrett drain from a Thunderbird TC. 17mm
7. Mitsu PVC valve and catch can off of intake pipe.
8. 20w 40 Rotella T synthetic. Will be changing to 5w 30 synthetic, once the new motor is broke in.

10,000 miles + 12k from Bob's car.
T28 @ 20PSI
7 bolt 2G
BS
Stock feed
Stock Drain
Stock PCV to IM, CCV to catchcan vented to atmo
Royal Purple 10w30

Good thread.

1. 20k-ish
2. PTE DBB 50-trim 25-30psi
3. 6-bolt
4. BS eliminated
5. Fed from the OFH with standard Garrett oil restrictor
6. -8an?
7. Dumped to the ground
8. 10w30 regular oil; first block was about 10k on regular for break in. Then new rings & bearings again for the second 10k, will switch to synthetic after another 5k or so.

Turbo condition: no shaft play, no oil burning, 100% same condition as the day I bought it.

Around 93,000 on stock 14b before I put in the small 16g. 14b is still good to go. I ran it 14-15 psi everyday and 18 psi at the track.

86,xxx miles and the turbo went out.

7-bolt
still have B-shafts
stock crank case ventilation
Dump tube cut
Stock t-25
stock boost
stock return line
replaced feed line with SS line after the stock one split, causing me to lose 1-2 quarts of oil.
10w-30 oil, either mobil1 or pennzoil

I'm almost certain when the feed line broke it probably starved the turbo for a little bit and contributed to the failure.

I auto-x the car a lot, and also do some track stuff as well. The feedline broke in the late spring, and the turbo blew the seals in mid august after a few hard laps.

EDIT: I also wonder if the dump tube cut might have contributed as well. I couldn't get the tube out of the intake pipe, so I dremeled it while it was in the pipe. I might not have gotten all the shavings out and maybe the turbo ingested some...hmmmm the turbo did fail within a month of doing this as well.

Is it possible this thread isn't getting any attention due to being in the Newbie forum? Can a Moderator possibly move it to a more appropriate section? Just thinking out loud as I am surprised more people don't see the value in such results:confused:
