I have been thinking about this lately as I'm going to be running a new turbo and figured I would like to get a thread started of results for turbo longevity. Please post especially if you have run the turbo for a long time- short time failures would also be very nice. If you guys can follow the format since everyone's setup is different, that will help with the results:

1. Amount of miles turbo lasted
2. Type of turbocharger and boost level
3. 6 or 7 bolt
4. BS or eliminated BS
5. Feed location and hose size/ Including restrictor if used. Also oil pressure if measured and where it is measured from
6. Type of oil drain and size
7. Crank case ventilation methods used
8. Type of oil used and weight

If anyone has more parameters to add to the list, let them fly!

I will start with my last 2g:

1. ~40,000 when I sold it and still in as good of shape as when it was bought brand new
2. FP Big28- 18psi
3. 7 bolt
4. BS
5. OFH, stock oil feed line/no restrictor
6. Stock drain
7. Mostly stock cc vent./~10k miles with a vented catch can
8. Mobile 1 5w-30

Don't be shy everyone:thumb:

I think many don't care about the value, hense the use of ebay turbos

Isn't that true...too bad, most just want to hear what they want to hear:|

I guess this thread is at least good for one thing...helping me finally get out of lurker statusLOL Better late than never!

Yeah it sucks to get 30,000 miles out of a turbo that most here told me I wouldn't get 1,000 miles out of, and that was 2 years ago... :hmm:

Mine isn't a race car, and I am not a Brian O'conner wannabe, Iwas done growing long ago and will never be that tall..:ohdamn:

Some people buy the best/cheapest (not always a good idea) and want racecar results. I think thats how the ebay turbos got a bad wrap. If you just want to boost your car and drive NORMAL they are ok most of the time. If you want a RACECAR you should buy a nicer turbo.

That just my opinion. You pay for what you get!

I have a 16g that is 7yrs old and has 57,000 miles on it. It has the stock water/oil and has had nothing but Mobil 1 for the last 8 years I have owned it. My wife drove it at 14psi. The motor is a 6 bolt with 57,000 mile on it also. Stock rebuild with good bolts and no balance shaft. Not abused and it is still very good. I have the turbo off the car right now. I have abused turbos on my SCCA SVO. I have broken the exhaust turbine off running 22psi. at Sears Point/Infineon as example. They don't last as long that way. Tres......

1. 80K, 10k, 20k and going
2. T-25 factory, T-25 ebay for $50, T-25 stock spec rebuilt locally
3. stock 7 bolt
4. BS
5. Braided inlet w/ larger restrictor
6. Stock
7. Stock
8. Mobile 1 5w30, Mobile 1 filter

*Long block was replaced with new factory unit at 68k miles. Always at factory 14lb boost. First turbo went out from debris hitting the fins at some time in it's life and causing a balance issue(we think), Ebay turbo went out cus I was a cheap ass, and most recent is still going on just fine.

1. Taken off of a JDM GVR-4 engine ??? mileage. Rebuilt it 5,000 miles ago due to excessive in/out play.
2. MHI Small 16g @ 25-30psi
3. 6 bolt
4. BS eliminated
5. Stock oil feed from head
6. Stock drain
7. Stock PCV system
8. Castrol GTX for the first 15k miles of break-in, Mobile 1 10w-30 full synthetic from here (18k) on out.
9. 25psi oil pressure at the head.

At those prices, they most likely can't pay an engineer to be onsite to overlook the manufacturing...there is also a good chance the metal making process isn't designed by a metallurgist. When Ebay turbos start coming on production cars, I may consider them...of course they will be much more expensive for obvious reasons;)

Why didn't you at least fill out the format while you were here???:)

1. Amount of miles turbo lasted
115,000 Miles

2. Type of turbocharger and boost level
T-25 at about 14 psi

3. 6 or 7 bolt
7-bolt

4. BS or eliminated BS
BS

5. Feed location and hose size/ Including restrictor if used. Also oil pressure if measured
Filter housing, stock oil pressure

6. Type of oil drain and size
stock

7. Crank case ventilation methods used
stock

8. Type of oil used and weight
Mobile one synthetic

side note: The turbo blew during a 2 minute long WOT at about 6500 rpms, after about 5 hours on the highway. Manifold was glowing red. I suppose that may have been pushing it but at least I was in the lead at the time against a tiburon. He said when he saw the smoke he thought I hit an afterburner rofl

the first car I bought was a gst:

1. 160k+ sold and the turbo was still good.
2. T25 at 7-10psi
3. 7 bolt
4. BS
5. Stock
6. Stock
7. Stock
8. 10w30 synthetic blend

Sold that and bought a gsx:

1. 90k Just bought it last month and the turbo just died.
2. T25 - not sure since didn't have boost gauge till after it blew up
3. 7 bolt
4. BS
5. Stock
6. Stock
7. Stock
8. 10w30 Mobil1 Full Synthetic + a quart of Locus Oil Stabilizer

That DOES suck that YOU got 30K and I got less than 1K:(. It's not like the ebay turbo track record isn't 100% proven. Who's cheaper than us dsmer's :p. After all I wanted more performance out of my ebay 16g than what the original 14b provided me. . . It blew before I got the airflow to the level at which I had my 14b. So I kept the turbine housing and used it on another used 14b and can now see over 30lb/min and not wonder if the turbo will blow or not. :nono: a 50-50 success rate means the turbos cost twice as much as advertized. Save your self the second turboswap and buy a MHI for twice as much once.

...I'll not respond anymore to that, to keep this thread clean. I really am glad you're e-turbo is working for you at your current level of performance.

1. 120k miles
2. Stock T-25 @13psi to 16psi
3. 7 bolt
4. BS not eliminated
5. Stock feed, no added restrictor (factory setup)
6. Stock drain (factory setup)
7. 1 way check valve after the PCV and a G2 Fram inline fuel filter from the breather port to my intake pipe.
8. Used Mobil 1 10w30, then switched to Pennzoil Platinum Synthetic 10w30, then to Mobil 1 High Mileage 10w30, and planning to switch to Mobil 1 0w30.

Wish I'd hurry up and install my FMIC and upgraded turbo so that my input actually mattered :D
