Okay, 180k miles and i been rebuilding my eclipse since End of September.

October, Ripped it all apart.
November, Finished Engine Bay, Paint.
December, Ran out of Funds.

Its been 3 months and it feels like i havent been able to drive my baby foreverrrrrr ... I ride around in my buddys Gs everyday and everyone compliments him on how nice his car is, that use to be me!

How long has your cars been down for, and how the hell do you cope!?:(

i traded my automatic integra for my 90 tsi awd drove it about 4 days and the turbos oil leak got too bad. then got about two more weeks and it started leaking from my output shaft seal. down a week waiting on parts. got to drive it for 2 more weeks and my right rear axle locked up and replaced it and it wouldnt move. took the trans apart due to pass side axle popped out and grinded some splines of so took the trans apart to clean it out and found that where the pass side of the front diff mounted to the bearing had completlly broken off into the bearing been down for 3 weeks now :(
heres a link to a pic of the diff

i might have everyone beat, my moms talon has been down since august 2004. Timing belt broke and destroyed the top end. We wanted to fix it but i started racing quads shortly after and well a deisel pickup, toyhauler, and 4 quads later i might get around to it soon.

My DSM has been down since august..I lost my job and couldnt get it out the shop..Interview Monday so horay for me!!I cry everyday. I Play Gran Turismo and draw pics of it all day.

My 98 GS-T has been down for almost a year now and one of my 99 GSX's has been down for 7 months

My car has never been down for more than 10 days.

**knocks on wood**

And that's because I dropped a valve into a cylinder while replacing valve springs with the head on. The delay was because I had to order a few more parts.

It just keeps chugging along. Put 3600 miles on it since July 3rd.

Just bought car 2 months ago, car is down. Blown transmission, ECU is bad. Time for some upgrades in the trans, and wait even longer.

Why is it taking everyone so long to fix stuff? Lack of money? if money isn't the problem even the worst mechanics can have an entire car rebuilt in and out in under a year :p

Also do some of you avoid maintenance and drop pennies in your oil? christ it seems like some of you blow up parts for a living. My 1g was only down for 1 week in the 8 years I owned it before this 2g and that was because I didn't do the timing belt in time.

Mostly lack of money, and some of us do blow up parts for a living!:hellyeah:

I have a GST Spyder and some a*$h%l#e bricked the rear window, well with the window also ripped the convertible top. It was an entire 9 months before I was able to save up enuff to replace the convertible top. HOW I COPED? I would make sure she stood looking clean. Everyday she got wiped down and her rims were shined...

I had a brake line rubbing on my wheel till it went through the line. so I parked it and ordered the brake lines. then I found a good deal on a set of rods then a deal on a set of pistons and the build started. about 4 months later i ran out of money. that was 4 years ago. the car is still on jack stands.

For me it was almost 3 years. got in to an accident sometime by late June been down ever since. First it was because of money. Then i save up, 2nd year my old man f$%k up the drive way took him a year to fix it. Wasted my money on guns... Save up my money again 3rd year fix it last month.

My Talon has been down since Last November. I'm in the army and deployed so waiting to return home and replace the headgasket and do all the proper maintenance for the 100,000 mile mark coming up in 4,000 miles since I will have it torn apart. I constantly search the classifieds and dsm parts for parts that I might need for the rebuild. It's very painful letting it sit in the garage. :banghead: So it's been down for 9 months and counting.

I've had my 99 GSX for just over a year now. I bought it with 178K and changed out the original clutch, fuel filter, plugs, wires, air filter... which took a few days. Since then it's been down for maybe a couple weeks total since I've owned it. I'm on my 3rd Autozone alternator (I just changed the alternator again yesterday), I had to replace an oil pressure sensor, timing belt job, replaced a brake caliper, driveshaft u-joints, front pads and rotors, rear pads changed... Little stuff costing a day or two here and there. But it's my DD with over 211K on it now and I drive 80 miles a day. It's been a great car and it still puts a smile on my face when I drive it.

My 97 Talon trans went out shortly after I bought the car, Then the engine went out shortly after that. The bores were all out of round when the engine was built and it ripped off a piston skirt. So, it's been sitting as a shell for about 2 years now. I'm hoping to get to it this winter.

My 92 TSi AWD has been sitting for a year and a half. I just started doing a headgasket job on it. Once I finish that, I'm going to part it out.

My other 92 TSi AWD has been sitting for about 3 years. I bought it in pieces and the previous owner lied about what the car needed to be road worthy.

Since september of last year. Longest parts I had to wait for is Intake and Exhaust Manifolds for over a month. had to rebuild everything from ground up. All i need is fuel and ignition! and hopefully she'll be running in 2 months! <sigh>

Totaled my 97 GSX in 04', bought my 95 TSi AWD and proceeded to tear it all down for no good reason other than to sell the stock parts and replace them with parts I had or, as money allowed, parts I wanted.

It's going on 5 or 6 years now since it's been a painted, running, clean car.

I've regretted my decision to strip it down every day for the last 3 or so years. I should've just left the 16g on it and slowly added mods.

Another $2-3K in paint, dyno time and miscellaneous stuff and I might just enjoy it again.

Lack of money I can see that is a legit reason. But even working full time a full rebuild should only take a little more then few weekends

Even if money isn't the main reason people also sometimes have other stuff going on. Mine's been down for 2 months even though I could have fixed it in 2 weeks, but I just finished swapping the 4.3 into my 93 s10, did body work to the same truck, had the bed scraped, sanded and bondo'd, then painted dark emerald metallic. On top of that, I've had to prep my backyard for a new spetic, build a 12X20 addition on the front side of my house, and build a 8X8X16 shed to house all my tools seperately from my car parts. It's been raining for 32 days straight and I'm currently a driveway mechanic(meaning no I do not have a nice, warm, dry garage. That's going to be built in a year or two, complete with 2-post lift, waste oil burner and fully stocked tool section). I was hoping to have time to complete my V8 swap into the s10 but Alaska has 4 months of decent weather(1 1/2 months without rain) before the temp starts dropping below 0 and it starts getting slightly uncomfortable working with aluminum and steel with your bare hands. I love my DSM but I have other priorities right up there with it, as I'm sure other people here do too.
