calgary,
I've been waiting for a decent DSM for about 2 months now. Decent in my terms would be relatively low mileage (under ~100km's) and 2g. Anyways I havent found any that fit under this criteria.

How long did it take ya'll to find your DSM?

Once I decided on a DSM, the first one ('94) took me about a month to track down. And I nearly passed on it because the clearcoat's dead. I'd thought it was a lousy repaint, but in talking it over with the (second) owner, and getting a good, honest read off him, that "bad" paint saved me over a thousand dollars off the general market. And I can't see a bit of it from inside. True, I do enjoy a good-looking car, but it seems to run just fine without it.

I didn't really go looking for the 2G with any intent, I was just cruising the Auto Trader, and one thing kinda led to another. It was also a "gotta sell" situation, and the bug had me anyway. It took about two weeks.

Keep in mind that every day, there are that many fewer DSMs to be had.

Well i just kinda happened upon mine. My wife and i went down to look at a 93 cobra that someone had for sale near my brothers house, when we got there i found out the sold it a few days before so we headed home. On the way she said she wanted to go look for a new bed and on the way to the store we passed by this car and she asked if i wanted to go back and look and i said sure....after some looking and a good test drive i signed the papers.

to find mine, i found it when i was 1yr old my grandma bought it brand new, about when i was 6-7 (i remember telling my step dad it was a cool car and i didnt know what kind of car is was but its really cool when i was about 13) i started saying i would have that car one day then when i was 17 and it was just sitting there gettin moss on it i asked how much she wanted for it and she said 500$ and i said deal.

You're about five to six years too late haha:D

Anyways while Im here, might as well share mine:

I was in highschool (2007). I had just got my license and was looking for a car. I was dead set on getting a Supra TT or something similar (if there is anything similar). Anyways, my parents shot me down on that idea. My dad works in a place surrounded by rich people, and one of the old lady happened to be selling a GsT spyder. It was well taken care of too. Maintenance at regular intervals and was in near perfect condition, the only flaws being a scratch on the seat and faded clearcoat on one of the sideskirts. At first I didn't want it, and the line that finally convinced me to get it was when my dad said "it's turbo." Ever since then I have loved my spyder.

alex.... 5 year old thread good reading though. dsms are easier to find in CO, there's 2 2g TSIs in my section of craigslist(ones a roller($500) other has electrical problems($1800)).

Took two months or so before i actually got around to finding a deal i was comfortable with. Then trade the rustang for it haha.

I looked for about 30 seconds before finding the one I wanted on Craigslist.

Straight trade plus title and tags plus a full tank for my 2000 civic EX.

I got it with 93,000 miles (1g), stuff to do my timing belt and a slightly going tranny. Nothing major but I'm getting it rebuilt to play safe.

Only cosmetic damage is a few door dings and one cigarette burn on the passenger seat.

It had a boost gauge, AEM A/F gauge, Tubular exhaust with a 3.25 inch ebay muffler, Z rated tires, a palm (hooked up) for minor data logging, he put my head unit in the talon (mine was way better), front/rear strut bar, and 96 GSX breaks.

Only problem since getting it was my battery died but that was due to helping someone jump their car. Not a big deal because I was planning on getting a winter battery anyhow!

I'm getting a 16g turbo and a punishment racing FMIC very soon. Hopefully a new fuel rail and injectors in the near future also.

haha i have a good story for this. 17 and going into summer last year from highschool. looking at a 95 eagle talon tsi awd.it needed some work but i love working on cars and my dad knew that. a day before i was suppose to get it i got a speeding ticket... that ended it right there my dad told me i couldnt buy it cause it was gonna be to fast for me. so i ended up spending my summer in a truck.... no fun at all. now just again found an insane deal on another 95 tsi awd just this october. the engine was out of it and after telling my dad im going to school after highschool to be a mechanic he let me get it. now i got around 2 grand into it and shes almost ready to roll on her own. i love this car already and i havent even driven it yet.

It all started back in my early teen years (I'm only 21 LOL). I got my Talon from its first owner, a woman, who was my mom's friend. She came over once and I fell in love with it the way that the sun reflected off the paint. But I didn't know what it was or anything about DSMs for that matter.

Fast forward to being 17 and looking for a car. My mom said her friend was selling the Talon and we looked at it. When my parents found out it had a turbo, they said no. Funny enough, I got a turbo MK4 Jetta.

So a year later I was looking for another car and I knew I wanted the Talon, but now my mom's friend wasn't too sure about selling it. So after waiting for her to make up her mind, I bought it right before I left for college.

All in all, it took about a year.

I've always liked 2g Eclipses, but knew nothing about them. I had a 99 Malibu since January of this year that was given to me. Well I just happened to go look on autotrader for some cars for the hell of it. in july i Saw a yellow GS for sale for $3500, told my mom i wanted to get it, she said get some numbers(cost of insurance) for me and we'll see. Well it was cheap so i went for it. Sold the Malibu for $2500 and saved up $1000. i had the car for 30 min. before it took a dump on me. i took it for a test drive before and all! so i said screw it and he can have the car back. monday, aug. 10, 2009 rolls around and i found a GSX at a wholesale place and i bought it.

I screwed myself bad because now I pay my note and insurance and I'm only 17. I had paid for the GS straight in cash but had to finance the GSX... now I can't even buy a catback exhaust LOL

One of my bestfriends sister had a car in the garage for 6 years without being driven and I never bothered on looking at it that whole time.... So in June 2008 I needed a car and my friend reminded me that her sister wanted to get rid of the car they had in the garage for years and was letting go for 2k. I always thought it was a ford escort or something because I never paid attention to it, but as soon as I seen that it was a Gst, I was already giving it a car wash...

It took me 1 day, the first day I opened craigslist and typed DSM, there was a 1992 AWD TSI talon that was running as a daily driver, never modded, fully stock, asking price was 2500. I went there with 1400 cash and drove home. I would say maybe 16 hours total from the time my wife said to if I was to get another boosted toy ( now that the STI is gone due to kids.) it has to be a talon. She wanted one in highschool. SO I opened the laptop, stopped at the bank and bought it.

My first DSM sat in my parking lot for about two years before I bought it off my friend who was storing it there. It was clean, but it was a 1.8L Laser with a smoking problem. So I guess it took me minus two years to find my first DSM.

At the time I didn't have any idea what DSM meant, and I only had a basic understanding of how a turbocharger functions, so I felt the best thing for it would be a 5.2L V8, and some 35" all terrain tires. I ended up with this:

Took me 3 days. Went onto ebay to look for a turbo car when I was in Baghdad Iraq and I came across the talon I have now. 100% drivable for $2,000. I didnt even know what a Talon really was until I wanted to play with my bank account LOL.

From the first time I saw mine until it was actually mine was about two years. A guy had it sitting in his driveway with a blown ECU. He also had a 90 GSX. My brother bought them both for $1500. After about a year my brother gave the TSI to me because he wasn't doing anything with it. So I got a 100% stock 90 TSI AWD, only 107,000 miles, and in extremely good shape. And i got it for FREE!!

My grandpa bought me a 98 esi when I was 13, then after we rebuilt it when I was 16 I looked into it more and figured out what I wanted. It took me about 2 years to find the right car for the money I had. I ended up driving 1700 miles round trip to buy a 97 awd tsi w/ 68,000 miles 3 months ago. Bone stock in amazing condition for $4,800.

4 days. :D

I found it via AutoTrader and it was at a dealership in Chicago. It was exactly what I had been looking for, so I called them and told them that I wanted it and that I'd be there in 4 days to pick it up. Even though they didn't believe me, they held it anyway and I took delivery 4 days later. That was October 2002.

I moved to washington saw it on craigslist and bought it. So about.. two weeks. I love working on cars when I have money. Right now is not the time for problems thoe.

I was at my uncles who was locked up and there she was just sitting here. so i guess just a couple of min. i took it home and were off to the races

:nono:About two yrs ago my buddy gave me a ride in a 1g tubo car and i wanted one ever since had an n/t 4g63 eclipse for about a yr sold it just 3 months ago.... bought a fiero.... pls dont give me too much shit LOL..... then i found my 93 laser rs t on craigslist for 750 dollars.... it leaked oil but its in immaculate condition... it turned out to be the flex portion in my return pipe.... she runs like a champ never misses a beat.....

5 minutes. My son bought the 92 Talon not running, finished the connections on the motor and drove it for two months. The timing belt snapped on him (I told him the TB seemed old/loose, he didn't listen) which bent several valves, broke one and dented the head while punching a hole in cylinder #1. I bought it from him for 200 bucks, which is what he paid for it. I installed a NA 6-bolt from my 92 Eclipse GS and put all the necessary parts from the TSi to turbo the motor.

Same here, 5 mins!! About 5 years ago, i was hanging out at one of my friends house.. I got bored while I was there and desided to get on line and look for a AWD 1g.. Typed in 92-94 eagle talon, on autotrader.com, and bam first car that showed up was a 93 talon tsi awd 5 speed, It listed as awd 5speed, blown motor, eprom ecu, and rust free..$500 need gone asap!! Called the guy up and asked if he still had it and he said, yes I just listed it 20 mins ago.. I then said I will come and get tomorrow.. So drove 5hours and picked up what i own now..

I already had a 92 laser fwd turbo that was modded and needed something awd..

Once I had the money together I searched Craigslist for about 5 hours then found the one I was looking for(93 talon awd). 2 days later I drove 6 and a half hours each way to get it. Well worth it I had no clue what these things are actually like. I LOVE my DSM

i found my 90 1g very easily, wasn't looking for a dsm, found it forsale and couldn't pass it up. shortly after i sold my honda's. its by far the cleanest 1g (bodywise) around here, or anywhere ive ever seen. (stock paint/body).

i have a 96 as a winter beater (awd is good in snow), and it was rough, needed mechanical, bodywork/paint but i got it for less then 2thousand and now its beautiful (did work myself). Paint/body turned out great. Took me about 2-3 weeks to find it because I was looking for something that needed work and didn't want to pay 5-6k.

It took me 1 day to find mine and then 1 day later it blew up. 10k dollars and 1 year later i still kick myself in the balls for buying it. :(
