I was reading another n00bs question on getting his new DSM from A to B without plates and was about to comment but for fear of thread-jacking decided to start a new thread...fore it minded me of my first meeting with my car.

I saw it on ebay, went from red with fabric interior to "scion silver" with black leather and already had some "work" done. The Owner said he had to drop everything and move to Washington state so I told him I have $2,500 to to give you to-morrow if you gimme the title. But he's in Boston and im in Upstate NY and the $2500 is about all I'm going to devote to procuring it.

Finally made it from Upstate NY...to NYC, then finally to Boston where my DSM was, on a greyhound...with a family members plates. Jerks at the station didnt tell me I had to go outta my way and change buses so after taking a cab over I ended up signing the title on the hood at 10pm in the middle of the projects with the owner's room mate and sister there ### he already skipped town. none of that sounds kosher.

Met them on the one lighted stoop in the place " Hey you zach?" "Yup." Got the cashiers check?" "Yup. Got the title?" "Yup."

initial impressions - these seats are comfy and this Momo wheel is mutha####in T'zite!

So with a warning of the dipstick popping out and bad valve cover gasket spewing oil on the manifold if I got on it I was on my way under the cloak of darkness. Still when I pushed the accelerator just enough while cruising id hit its boost profile and got that cool gentle shove in the seat. It had a short ram intake and a steel mesh filter so the only thing you could hear was the turbo spool. *sniff* yup, burning oil, dammit

I completely missed an exit and had to go through Syracuse like another hour for a total of six hours and did not mind at all.I mustave listened to this silly gwen stefani solo album I bought on the way like 8 times somehow I thought that was my best option to buy at a gas station on the way back.

I had to have a car for work/school but I do not suggest doing any of that ..especially the gwen stefani album whenever I think of that story that damn album pops in my head.:barf:

Its my wifes falt. She has always liked the eclipses.( Now she regrets it) I didnt know much about them at first. Bought her a 99 gs. Drvoe it for a while. Liked it but needed more. Got a v8 s10. Loved it. But missed the handling. Got a 98 gs. Now I missed the power. Drove it fro a bit, did some work to it. Then the movie came out. I thought I'll try it. Didnt work out so well. got a 1g fwd. loved it. Worked on it for a good bit. Then damn thing caught fire, burnt to ground. Finally got me an awd. Got to drive it once. Had it for almost a year now. Its almost back on the road. Im dyin to get out and drive. Got the engine and trans in today. Not to long now. Hopefully soon.

my story:

i was 15 about to turn 16, i needed something to wrench on. my brother bought a 96 talon base that was wrecked in front and back. i changed the oil, changed the body parts, got it nice and tuned up. first time i took it out, i got on it a little bit, as soon as i let off the gas, engine started knocking. i planned on swapping it with a 2.4L clould car block, but then found a 4g63T engine. i searched for answers and everyone said sell the car and get a turbo DSM. i did just that. parted it out and made my money back. kept some body parts just in case (good thinking).

then 2 weeks before my 18th birthday i found a 95 TSi on a local forum. went to check it out, car needed a LOT of work, but it was an AWD. guy wanted 5k, i offered him 3, and he jumped on it. took it home, started replacing the tore up interior, took off the 550cc injectors and put stockers, tuned it up, put a mbc and put it to 17psi. car tore ass all day, just ate a lot of gas. ended up being because i have a 255LPH HP walbro. so 2 days after i bought the car i go to race some friends. my mbc started acting up and i would spike to 25psi and stay at 20 (i didnt know at the time because my boost gauge wasnt backlit and it was night). i was almost done with 4th gear when i heard something pop and the car started dying. i smelled gas, so i pulled off the backseat and saw a popped fuel hose. ended replacing that, a day after that, one injector locked up so i bought another set. changed the wheelbearing, took off the exhaust, and reamed balls. now, 2 years later, the car is still running strong. im probably leaving a lot out but im tired as hell. LOL.

I haven't really bonded with my DSM yet, I still hate it. bought mine a year and a half ago, fully built 6 bolt 2.3 all the works, less than 60k on the clock and beautiful new paint job, or so i thought. flew down to florida to pick it, and drive up 1000 miles or so home to VA. To this day I still don't know how I made it that far. Couple days later the oil filter housing literrally came apart in my garage and dropped 3 quarts of oil. put a 90 housing with a b&m external cooler and stainless steel lines. Literrally 30 minutes later the alternator takes a dump on me, taking the battery with it. replaced that, new alternator and all new wiring relocated it to the hatch, go finally to get it dyno tuned since it had been on wastegate boost the whole time..one pull and head is making a loud ticking noise. turns out a rocker had come off, but upon removing the valve cover also discovered the head had been starved of oil and the cams were grinding against the journals. literally just replaced that with a built one and I drove my car for the first time today in 2 months now I just gotta turn the boost up! then i can start bonding haha

Uh my grandma bought the talon from the dealer in 91 and i always spent time at her house looking at the car never knew what it was even called i always said it looks like a mitsubishi but i didnt know. Then my dad had it for work and i rode with him alot and just loved everything about it then talked my grandma into selling me it for 500$ and found this thread. so i grew up around my car my whole life and always wanted it and finaly got it

Back when I was 16 one of my coworkers had a black 2g talon that thought was sexy as hell. It ended up needing a clutch so I did it for him(thank goodness it was a non turbo model because I did it in a carport LOL).

At that age I couldn't afford one but loved how they looked. I was on my second black prelude with 4ws when someone decided to back in to my car at a light with a tow hitch =( she drove home but insurance totalled it out. Got $2200 out of a car I paid $1200 for =)

decided I wanted a turbo car and went to look at rx7's, 240's, and dsm's. Well, rotaries are expensive and 240's never came with a stock turbo here and people wanted to much for swapped ones. Eclipse and Talon had an AWD option and I drive through much rainy weather and some rare snowy conditions so I was looking at it as a safer choice for travel.

I test drove a green 1g and loved it, mostly stock small notchiness in third, but put me right back in the seat when I stepped on it. I was hooked!! told him I'll call you in two days because I was waiting on my insurance check. He sold it next day, I wanted to weep.

I keep looking and find three other promising test drives, kinda far down to southern Washington and finally Oregon, had my brother come with to drive the truck back home in case I purchased anything too far away. The first two reeked of subpar work and shade-tree mechanics, coolant light was on, a/c removed, semi-gutless, both 1gs as well. Last stop was a used carlot in Oregon off some small highway. I had found the listing online yet it had no pictures. After calling the lot they said the had it but couldn't hold it, yet the had nothing in the works for it so I said "I'm driving down from washington so I'll see ya in a few hours"

Still skeptical from the lack of pictures and the fact that its a used car lot I finally found the place and saw this pristine 2g sitting. I began my test drive with my brother and the first thing I did was realize how fast it goes from 0-90!!! Turned it back around and had him start the paper work. No sooner did that happen then I hear his phone when all I hear him say is "sorry, I'm working up the papers on it right now". Too late buddy it's mine, and best of all it was completely stock. $4k later and I was all smiles on my three hour trip home :D

I love my Tsi and tell her often

I had always wanted an eclipse I read about them in magazines from a young age but being in the u.k was very hard to get and very very rare to buy so I kept looking and found nothing and if I imported 1 I would pay loads of tax and parts to make it legal in the u.k! So I just stuck with my clio williams (french car) LOL then 3 years ago I met an amazing girl and were still together today and guess what her dad being ex us navy and american owned an eclipse 98 gst I was so shocked and since then I have not wanted anyother car and infact want more 2g eclipse's but that will happen once we move to tampa bay FL I think its the best car ever and get so many comments at shows here! I'm so happy I found my dream car its going to stay with me till I die!

As a kid, I hated cars... I was only into Dirt bikes/motorcycles, and I never took an interest into anything with more than 2 wheels. I worked since I was 13, and when I was 15 I bought a nissan truck. 2 weeks after I was 16 and had my license, I flipped that truck sliding around on gravel roads and pulling the E-brake a bit to much (before Tokyo drift was out). So while trying to explain to my friends what I had been doing, I found a drifting video, then a rally video. I was hooked on the EVO but knew I couldn't afford it. I picked up a pos geo tracker to get me by until I could... At the end of my freshman year of college, I found a wrecked S14 that ran well, had tein lowering springs ect ect. I knew they were "drift cars" so I picked it up for 1600, it was a great car, but just wasn't what I was looking for. So I sold it for $2600 after putTing a new hood on it, and a week later impulse bought my first DSM.

It was a 1990 tsi awd. And man did I pay way to much for it. It had a shot 2nd gear syncro, and even with that, feeling that boost made me pay $2300 with out even thinking about it.... Thats when all the trouble started. I bought it about 100 miles away from my house, but was near a soon to be room mates house from college. so I drove over an picked him up. 20 minutes later, we were stranded in the middle of nowhere as my Crank angle sensor had gone out. we spent the next three days and $700 replacing the timing belt/waterpump ect ect. and finally getting it running. although not well. I limped it back to my house, and then the next day to college. the next week it was running like crap, and I couldn't figure it out until the check engine light told me that an injector was unpluged... then it was better but still not the best. I bought a 2g manifold to upgrade to, but as I was removing the cracked manifold on it, I broke off an exhaust stud in the head, and after trying everything else, ended up removing the head and finding there were valve marks in the pistons, deciding it was a project and dismantling all of it. And I mean all of it. Today it sits like this:

But, no, one talon is not enough. I just bought a 92 tsi awd for $500 which came with a bunch of uninstalled performance goodies (FMIC cam gears and a t3/t4 .60 a/r ) 3 blocks/heads one of which is in great condition and will soon be rebuilt. (my 90's crank was out of round so I was saving for a full rotating assembly).

Everyone has such touching stories, LOL. Seriously though, I am new to owning a DSM, as I just picked up a 97 Eagle Talon TSi FWD with 108k on the odometer for 750.00 I bought this car from a close friend whose going through a rough patch and had no need for 3 cars so he hooked me up. As of right now, it runs great but has a CEL on. He told me he had it checked and its the Front o2 sensor which I am replacing this week. This thing also has no passenger door handle which broke off recently and it makes a ton of noise from the front left suspension when going over bumps and cranking the steering wheel.

Other then that, the motor, paint and body seem to be in great working condition.

Back in the day my friend bought a '91 Talon TSI,black gray trim...man was that thing sexy, and I wasn't into cars at all. I was too busy riding bmx and going to concerts to worry about a car as anything other than transportation. But that Talon was a beauty, and since then I have been found of the 1g DSM's. A year or two later, I purchased a '90 Laser RS,non turbo,as I didn't know anything about a turbo then except from Knight Rider:D I beat the piss out of that car, rarely did the necessary maintenance yet it never failed me,never got stuck in the winter, always started...finally my lack of care forced me to buy something newer. About 4 yrs ago I started looking into get a tuner car,and decide to go back to DSM. After much looking and searching classifieds I found my GSX,although I preferred a 90 or 91 because of those sexy flip up lights, but I finally had one. It was stock, and appeard fine but after a few months all the bugs started coming out...started with a timing pulley being on backwards which started to pull the timing belt into the motor, front brake had the two bolts swapped(the slide bolt swapped for guide bolt) and the clincher a NT ecu in my AWD!!!WTF Through all the troubles I've had with getting her running right(and doing all maintenance when it's supposed to be done:thumb:)I wouldn't trade my car for anything but another DSM...well,maybe a 4g63 swapped CSM,but I'm hoping to do my own before it comes to thatLOL

Well, It all started back in the day when i was wee little when the fast and the furious came out. ALL I WANTED was a SKYLINE or a ECLIPSE. Well i soon found out that, skyline is out of the question because well, we all know why. Anyway i turned 16 and the only car i wanted was a eclipse. Looked and looked. Parents didn't want me to have one and i didn't know how many problems these cars accually had. But i wanted one none the less. I looked at about 20 with my dad and finally found a GS-T convertible. They told me it was turboed. I knew NOTHING about cars. She sent me pictures. and i fell in love. (well i thought i did) I got to the house a few days later to look at it and BOOM. There she was. Even more gorgeous in person than in pictures. I took her the next day. Only problem was 150k miles on her. I Drove her for 30k miles and at 180k. Head Gasket Blew. Now im here rebuilding her =)

After riding around with my good friend in his stock '90 Laser RS Turbo FWD a lot over the first couple years he owned it, I realized how incredibly fast they were for the money, considering he paid very little for his.

Now this whole time I had been looking to get a new car. I wouldn't settle for anything that wasn't a performance car and I didn't have a huge budget. After searching and searching for a car that met all my criteria, the cars that popped up the most were DSM's. Knowing what my friend got out of his 1g for a little over a grand, I figured for up to 7k, I could find a nice looking 2g.

Sure enough, this past summer I finally found the perfect car, my '95 Talon TSi AWD, which had only 85k on the clock and was unmodified and un-abused by the previous owner. I got it for $4800 and haven't looked back.

When i was about 13 i walked down the street to the store, bought some candy and walked back home. Out of nowhere I hear the high pitch wine of a turbo and look back to see a 2nd gen eclipse gst getting on it down my street. As he passed me his BOV opened up and i immediately fell in love. Fast forward 2 years when i had just got my drivers permit and in the market for a car. 2nd gen eclipse was the first vehicle that came to mind, but it being 2003, they were still pretty pricey. I go to the store with my mom and we pass a house with a 1990 gsx with a 4 sale sign in the window. I had to have it. It was the cleaniest 1g i had ever seen in person, and i mean CLEAN. 2 months and $2700 later, the dsm was in my driveway

my love for my dsm ummmmm. well i have always loved them and i always saw the 4g63's running around but i dident want one because everyone had the turboed ones so i looked around and found my 1995 rs n/t in some farm town an hour and a half away they guy was in debt so i told him id give him $450 for it. and he was about to argue the price with me and he got a phone call it was his bank they told him he has a $400 payment due by tommrow. he hung up looked at me and said sold. sence then the body kit was removed right away, put on a gsx wing, painted the car my self, a bunch of bolt ons, new rims, and the repair every week got me real close with my baby then she broke down and i let it sit for a month or 2 and found another one it was a 1995 gs turbo but it had a blowen motor so i bought it for $300 and sold parts off it and took parts i needed and got mine going again. well here i am sitting with a bent rod so i pulled the motor and i am currently doing a complete build im putting $7,000 into the engine and turbo fuel build. and i am every day getting closer with my girl.

DSM LOVE! My step brother was given a 1991 eagle talon NT. The problem was that the car did not work. It need a complete rebuild for it to start functioning again. Like any project it sat for while and our mother started to get upset. She called it a "Blight on our front yard!". My brother didn't have the money to fix it at the time. He really had no choice but to junk it. I gave him the offer of taking the car off his hand and give me the burden of taking fixing the car. I had recently gotten my license and I need a car anyway to drive. I started to do research on the car, realized that since it was a 1g it had a 4g63 no matter what. I had enough money to fix the car and get it on the road. The more I learned about my new car the more I was amazed. I saw what this engine was capable of and its record of being a proven 4 cylinder (now I can say its the only 4 cylinder I trust). And that is how I spawned my relationship with DSM.

I was lucky enough to get sucked into this world by accident. A broken down car sitting in my driveway for 2 years...I had not clue that this would start an addition to a cult. no regrets@!@#!@$%!#~@!$#

So i was like 10 and i saw a dodge stealth and fell in love with it i said back then i would own one. jump forward to right before my 21st birthday and i was driving away from my house and i saw a 3000gt sl sitting for sale by the side of the road. i bought it a week later. it only took like 3 weeks for me to realize what i really wanted was a vr4. which i couldnt/cant afford. also the 3k's are SOOO heavy. so i began looking for a awd mitsubishi made turbo car. so since i cant afford an evo i found out they made a car even cooler then the evo. The Mighty Galant VR-4. it took almost a year to find one i liked and i love it.

i remember the Eclipse commercials from like 99, and always liked them. I didnt know much about them or Talons at all. I had always thought Talons were knockoff Eclipses, and the turbo models were kinda ehhh....I had driven a 99 GST Spyder Auto, and didnt get to really open it up. it sold before comming back to buy, i was bumed. That sunset orange color, so sexy, but felt sorta sluggish. Instead i got a 99 Explorer Sport.

About 2 months later, I was bored one day and was driving around, and passed a carlot with a Talon sitting there in the back, and i had never seen a 2gb at all. Then i saw it was turbo and 5spd, so i test drove it. My 1st time feeling boost, and did it feel amazing. i drove it for 2 hours, and used up almost a full tank of gas. The next day i showed up with a blank check from the bank and got it, 4700 bucks.

I can honestly say there wasnt 1 time i hated the car, even with just about everything going wrong and breaking. I had the car for 3 years, and can say that was the best 3 years of my life. It lead to meeting the love of my life, alot of traveling, pretty much made me a new person. How sweet LOL

I was working on a friends integra, then our best friend pulled up in his sentra that was closely followed by a 2g spyder gst... I get out from under the car to see whos with him. It was friend that happened to be a girl. Well after that day I'm with the girl that had the spyder. Now I drive it, and she has my sentra. This all happened over a year ago. Still love the car (and her) even though I have to fix it every weekend...

I just recently switched from the darkside. Yes I am a previous honda owner. I have wanted a DSM for a long time now and my brother has owned an EVO IX for a little over a year and a half and now I know all the guys from EnglishRacing and alot of the guys on Evom that can point me in the right direction as far as upgrades. So why not go with something new! Saw a 95 GSX that I couldnt resist so now the building begins! :hellyeah:

On the lot in 2000. I looked it all over and it didn't have one ding, scratch or blemish. When I looked in to check the mileage I saw the shifter. I about fell over when I saw it was an automatic as I was wanting a 5-speed. We left the dealership and it ate on me all weekend. It was the nicest car in our area so I went back and bought it. It is the funnest car I have owned!

I didn't know much about dsms. Shoot i didn't even know there was turbo dsms LOL.

But back in '08 i was looking for a fun car, something turbo and wanted out of the bmw world.

Little i knew about dsms and did not know about dsmtuners, the second dsm i looked at i made the mistake and bought it. A modded '95 TSi that was hacked to the tires. The kid agreed on a price then when i was ready to pick it up he tried to get extra money out of me.

Well i didn't go for it, then he was like alright bring me what we agreed on and its yours. Like i said little i knew i thought it was just a timing belt off by a tooth. Bring it home, fix that then the real problems show up. Motor was fried, bearings were chewed, cometic hg wasn't sealing and the knockoff 16g was starving for oil. So you can only imagine what kind of piece of junk i bought. I made the mistake and fell into a large hole. They guy kept claiming the motor was solid LOL. Well i couldn't live with the fact i owned a pos.
So i ended up parting it out completely and sold the shell to claim some money back.

After that i must of looked at over 100 dsms all were junk, i was ready to travel. All i came up with was junk.

After a year i found what i have now a bone stock '95 TSi AWD. It sat for about 2 years, but this time i knew what i was buying. Been working out the bugs but i was able to drive it, unlike my first dsm.

You live and learn, since crusing this forum i have learned alot. If i was registered before i bought that pos most likely i wouldn't of bought that pile of metal.

Ive always like the 1st gen talons and gsxs, i found my first one when my turboed honda started to go out on me(piston rings), just so happened a friend of a friend had recently bought an evo and had no further use for his 1994 talon. I sold the honda, bought the talon, fixed a bunch of little things here and there, a friend of mine blew the motor in his 1st gen talon and i bought the shell, i just finished swapping everything over into that car. So i guess you could say i was meant to have a talon. BTW i got the turbo, injectors, bov for my honda from another auto 1st gen talon that i traded a kawasaki ninja bike for :p

My brother in law worked at a ford dealership and I told me that some older guy just traded in his 95 TSi AWD 5-speed completely mint talon for a truck....I was 16 at the time and my father was nice enough to buy me the car for a present...:thumb:

Well I pretty much beat the crap out of the car launching it quite often....never broke down like sweet....:applause: Upgraded to a 16g 1g bov etc...very light light mods...

One night on my way home from the blvd some guy was riding my ass, so I just pull to the next lane to let him pass....Well I end up hitting a red light...Dude guns his car I'm like whatever...he kept reving next to me for about a mile til I got tired of him and asked if he wanted to run them....
Launched the car from rev limiter and spanked the guy....Here I ended up blowing out so many parts...Messed up tranny x-fer case and the rear end...Nice :ohdamn:

Well I decided I really didnt feel like fixing it so I traded of 95 my my old 91 TSi AWD I stuck over 8k worth of parts into it, loved that car so much...but I just couldnt get it to run right...I still wish I never got rid of the talon....But I traded it to a guy in squirrel hill/pittsburgh area...

Traded a running 91 TSI AWD for my 99 GSX......Very stupid decesion but I got a mint car...besides needing put together...Guy said he was planning on twin turboing the car...had vinals all over it...had these little caps that went over all the bolts...CUT the stock shifter to put some ### ricer light up autozone shifter handle on...Not includeing a miles worth of wiring for the blue BOAT lights behind the wheels and the lights hanging behind the bumper so it had blue lights hanging on those balls you can buy that hang(blueballs....)...:ohdamn:made him take the vinals off before I recieved it....It looks like it was in storage for years...So much dust..
