Stop me if this has been done before. I didn't find any other similar threads really, but it was a little hard to know what to put in the box for a search.

Do tell, how'd you come by your DSM? Was it new when you got it? Plain old car loan, or did you play the system and pull off something squirrelly?

Edit: Forgot to put "trade" on the list. Hopefully there isn't a horde of people who swapped for theirs...

Well i consider my self a lucky bastard ROFL being that my dad owns a car lot I currently have a 95 Talon Tsi Automatic and a 90 Talon AWD 5-s[eed (saw it at an auction for $500 i couldn't say no) :rocks:

Lots of cash so far. You fellas must have pretty good income.

Well, that, and the typical 1g is 5k or less...

I saw mine sitting at a run down grain elevator near my house. It sat there for about a year and then I got the courage up to ask around to see who's it was. It ended up being the elevator manager's wife's car. I didn't have the money for it but my dad was looking for a car for my brother. For whatever reason, he bought this car for my brother, who doesn't even like manual transmission, for $500 in broke condition and tried to fix it up for him. He took it to work the first morning he got it running and the ECU crapped out on him. He couldn't figure it out and I immediately took it under my wing and I've been working on it since. I still haven't bought the title from him (hoping he'll give it to me for my 21st birthday in May) but I'll get to it once the car is running and ready for registration.

Had an accident where a guy was going up a hill towards me going 55 and totalled my Caprice and my arm went through the windshield. 8 stitches and 6 months later, I found me a local turbo dsm. :dsm: Them stitches were worth it. :thumb:

my dad was car shopping about a year and a half ago, and when he came home i saw an eclipse parked outside. 3 months later he bought another car and gave me the eclipse.

Got my 92 TSi AWD as a high school graduation present and bought my Laser with cash because I was sick of driving my slow ass 300zx n/t.

looked at the 300zx for about 3 months, one week i found out about a gsx, read up about it, bought it, never looked back

I blew up my Old car...Made that engine make knocking sounds I didn't know possible. Started looking at cars to buy. Looked into DSM's. Figured out by my insurance I couldn't afford a Turbo But i was hell bent on finding an N/T...Everyone I found (At least 6) was in OK condition, they all had minor problems that I was worried about...Drove down to visit my Friend and saw this Red 2G tucked in the back...Came back a week later and paid the guy cash.

I'd been looking in the auto trader for years, saved the whole time waiting for the right time, and BOOM, one day at work on lunch break, went to WAWA, picked up the Auto trader (March 2002)and there it was 1997 TSi AWD 45,000 miles 5spd, Black on Tan, sunroof, $8,000, SOLD, NEXT DAY... CASH. DAMN I'M GOOD

My MR2 needed a timing belt change and I needed more power. So I walked on the lot in August, decided I didn't like the 1Gb headlights, and picked this one off the lot. Worked out the price I wanted to pay, made the down payment and put the rest on a bank loan and drove it home.

I was pumping gas one day and a guy I had never seen before came up to me and asked if I knew anyone interested in a 92 tsi awd. Had a broken timing belt and he didnt have the cash to fix it. I went and looked at it the next day and had it towed home that afternoon. $800 for the car with 94k miles, and umpteen thousand $ later and this is where its at now. Thankfully Ive had the cash to buy it, rebuild it, and mod it. I couldnt imagine having to finance the car or anything done to it.

been working since the day i turned 14 and was saving money long before that. got a nice paying full time job right out of highschool.
every 1g I bought as you said, was actually less then 3500, 2 of which were less then 1000
the 2g tsi I will hopefully be picking up is 3k :thumb:

Paid $400 for my 94 TSi AWD standard, all it needed was 2 calipers and rotors. Previous owner said she got a estimate and it was more than she wanted to pay to fix it. ROFL

My 91 TSi AWD was $1100. Bought it with a BIG 16G and every major problem a DSM can have, 80% done. Selling car, $2500 OBO. :talon:

1st DSM - 1990 Laser. Stumbled upon it accidently while waiting for my Honda to get out of the shop 9 mos. later. Paid $4k for it, 59k miles on the clock.

2nd DSM - 1990 GSX. Local kid was selling it for college money. Paid $2000.

3rd DSM - 1992 Laser AWD. Sitting in the back of a wholesale dealership. Had bad tranny and turbo. Gave him $500 cash, towed it home, and stripped it.

4th DSM - 1991 Talon FWD A/T Picked it up for $500 cash. Nice car. Needed a torque converter. Sold it a few weeks later for $1200, still needing the torque converter.

5th DSM - 1990 Talon AWD $1000 cash, included brand new ACT 2600 in package. 3" thermal cat back exhaust. Car wouldn't move. Bled clutch, drove it home.

6th DSM - 1991 Talon AWD $800. Needed a battery.

7th DSM - 1994 Talon AWD A/T - Mint interior/exterior. NO rust whatsoever. Needs timing belt/head. $1500

Those are all of my DSM's. To this date, I still own the 90 GSX and the 94 TSi will become my daily driver.

muncy? thats like a half hour from where i used to live before i moved here last year. ill give you 1000 for it :thumb:

I would sell it for that except I had a new clutch, slave cylinder, flywheel, starter, water pump, all belts, head gasket, windshield, sunroof, and a 2 1/2" turbo back exhaust put on it. Plus the 16G has less than 50 miles on it.

Me and my brother shared an expedition during highschool and for some reason during the first semester I wasn't allowed to have a car... it was retarded, i couldnt do anything at all. We had discussed that over winter break we would look at cars. I was looking into 240sx, first car we saw 7,900 but it was in perfect shape, but it sold the day we were going to pay for it. It was way more money than they wanted for it. We went to another place that sold 240's they were all crap and he was a jackass. I wanted a car and couldn't seem to find any that were in our budget since I wasn't allowed to get an old 240 cuz they dont have airbags. Decided to widen our search to include 2g elcipses after seeing a couple awesome ones in a showroom which were all out of our price range. We saw a couple 2g n/t but again for some reason they were all above our price range. Finally found one at a dealer but they sold it at auction they wanted 5,000 on their site, but lucky me I found out who they sold it to went there and bought it for 3,900, I'm lucky I didn't buy that 240 in the beginning.

My mom owned my car, she bought a new 2003 mustang gt, they wanted to sell the eclispe. I bought it after I sold my 73 240z and my 88 bmw 325e. I am still in love with it even though it's slow it sounds fast, and it's extremely relaible.

I traded in two VW golf A3 shells. well both had everythign in them, but didnt run. One had a vr6 swap in a 4dr woot. ANyways i traded those in for 4,000 worth of value and got near 8000 in a loan for hte rest of the car and an extended warranty which might i say was very useful
