Okay, 180k miles and i been rebuilding my eclipse since End of September.

October, Ripped it all apart.
November, Finished Engine Bay, Paint.
December, Ran out of Funds.

Its been 3 months and it feels like i havent been able to drive my baby foreverrrrrr ... I ride around in my buddys Gs everyday and everyone compliments him on how nice his car is, that use to be me!

How long has your cars been down for, and how the hell do you cope!?:(

Mine was down for 13 months because I was lazy and poor. But now I got 300 miles on a freshly built motor =D

Mine Was My Brothers He Bought An Evo 9 On Sept 08 And Left The 2g Dsm Abandoned (I Mean He Didn't Use It & It Needed Some Work & Parts) And I Bought Him The Car On Dec. 08 And It's Been A Year And Still Couldn't Finish It. Im 17 Im In My Senior Year In Have No Job... (I Have Applied Everywhere But No One Seems To Hire Me) And It's Been A Year Since I Don't Use It & Seems Forever! The Parts I've Bought Are From Savings & Selling Some Stuff I Don't Use.. Boy Tuning Dsm's Is Expensive But I Don't Regret It 1 Bit. Dsm 4tw!

well i start a new job on tuesday... 9$ an hr..
but idn im just getting frustrated that i can't drive the only real thing i accually love.

But i mean it is winter, and everyone's cars are now in garage. so i shouldn't feel that bad and if theirs is outside that sucks for them :thumb:

I keep telling myself, a few months from now instead of 180k miles; ill have 0 :D

My first DSM was down for months I bought it back in 98, after the original engine went, I saved up to replace it. I got a engine shipped from NY. I was 19 then. I worked as a fabricator on a caterpillar line as a welder, and made pretty good money to be 18 years old, didn't take me long.

I'm at 14 months with a total of 2 weeks driving time. Rod knock = rebuild; poor rebuild = down again; motor in transit = motor in wreck; motor 2 installed = crankwalk; 6 bolt block being built now

All of that in 14 months. Drove for a week on the first rebuild and a bearing went out (due to ludicrious amounts of RTV on oil pan that went into circulation. Motor 2 was a week driving until crank walk so bad that I would stall out and a horrible metal on metal sound was occuring. I'm just waiting for the machine shop to start working on the 6 bolt of mine now.

I miss my baby and my g/f keeps telling me to sell it. F that!

Never been down..:thumb:
We have a bond.. It's my little go-cart and it just wont die. :D
Hell it even agrees with me that a z28 or mustang will NOT pass us.:hellyeah:

Mine was down for about 1.5 years due to an exploded throwout bearing. I just didn't feel like fixing it (I was sick of working on cars... I went through a period for about 4 years where I totally stopped modding cars).

Well, I finally got the itch to work on it, pulled the tranny and fixed everything up. This was about 2 years ago and other than a 3-month sit after my clutch threw a spring and jammed up, and a few little hiccups (ECU stuff) it's been running fine!

Was down for 4 months ... full rebuild and many other parts in my profile. 1 month of that was work, travel, and family stuff. Now have 800 miles on the new engine with no running issues and not a single drop of anything leaking. :D :thumb:

It took me 6 months to do a HG change. I was just too busy riding my motorcycle and enjoying the summer weather to spend time in the garage. I also had my Lightning to drive, and that truck is 10x more fun to drive in the summer than a DSM.

6 Months due to shitty oil cooler design pissing all over the freeway, wiping out cylinder 3, popping the HG, warping the head, scoring the cam journals, and piston walls. Did a full rebuild.

Just put on DPCs and hawk HPS pads today - liking the new found braking power.

Got about 500 miles on since the rebuild. I had a DD though during summer time so i could cope easily.

Shoot... too many. When I first got it, took about 6 months to get money for a turbo. Then the longest... 9 months, finally after throwing all kinds of parts at it... found out it was the ECU. Been running ever since besides water pump and alternator belts getting loose and a punctured tire ;)

How do you cope? I would sit quietly in my car and think....

The longest mine has been down was probably 3 weeks. After I blew the new 50 trim I bought and had to send it back to PTE to get rebuilt. All the time was in the shipping. It sucked to wait that long, but I rode my back every day and was getting 58mpg! haha

Well lets see I just scraped my old project 90gsx it broke down Christmas eve 2004, then it flooded in 9+ feet of water from hurricane Katrina august 12, 2005(I lost 2 other DSMs and a mirage that day along with my house). The car only need a short block to get on the road before it flooded. Bought $4000 in parts for it before I decided to scrap the car for my current project (luckily I can use about 2k worth of those parts on the new project).

My current project I bought a 96 spyder GST back in Oct of 08. Had a blown transmission and a few other minor problems I fixed the day after I bought it. I Hope to have it on the road in a week or two. I just need some trans fluid and some inter cooler piping.

I had a running dsm back in Jan of this year. Bought it to fix it and sell it. I had it in running condition for two weeks before I sold it. Avatar is the pick of the engine bay of this 90 tsi fwd.

mine was down for 4 months.. engine rebuild gone bad, and ate a bearing, then the swap, and another NA motor with my dope pistons.. took forever to get the motor.. god.. i am glad thats over now.. haha.. but yeah.. 2 engines and 4 months later, i was smashin.. haha

My car slung number one out the back of the block last summer around 450hp on my HX40 setup. I began building an end-all 2.0 long rod which just spit the thrust bearing into the oilpan after 30 minutes of idle tuning. Luckily, my machine shop is eating the cost. I pulled it today. Definitely a tear jerker. Maybe it will run before 2010. FML

yeah.. mine ate the number 3 bearing in 25 miles.. LOL...

its good to be back here.. LOL:thumb:

I bought the car last august. I was getting ready to get it inspected and the CEL came on. In Pa you need an emissions test, if the CEL is on it wont pass. The car needed a new MAFS, so i put one in. Well that fixed that problem. Then the car wouldnt start ### the battery kept dieng, found out the battery was bad, so got a new one. well it worked for a while then it kept dieing again. found out that one was bad too. Got another new one, so far this one has kept its charge. After all that trouble i run into more. The car wouldnt idle worth a shit. So i ripped the SAFC out of it and put 450s back in it. It ran fine. Finally in march of this year it got inspected and passed emissions. But i still been having problems.. lets jus say its practically a new car..i put new fuel pressure reg, tps, alternator, radiator, spark plugs, headlights, rear hub and bearing, brake caliper, fuel filter, new front tires, and i still need evap stuff. So i really havent had much time to drive the car this year.
