How long was your DSM down for?

Okay, 180k miles and i been rebuilding my eclipse since End of September.

October, Ripped it all apart.
November, Finished Engine Bay, Paint.
December, Ran out of Funds.

Its been 3 months and it feels like i havent been able to drive my baby foreverrrrrr ... I ride around in my buddys Gs everyday and everyone compliments him on how nice his car is, that use to be me!

How long has your cars been down for, and how the hell do you cope!?

Isn't it hard on one sitting, rust forms in cylinders, and on bearings. Its what I heard, if mine sits a while, I try and start it every day or other day.

Who told you that wild story?

I've known V8's and some 4cyls that sat for years before firing back up and ran fine-just get that oil changed pronto.

Only thing on if letting a motor sit quite the very long while is to take out the plugs and shoot a squirt of oil down the bores to wet up the cylinders when you spin the crank manually before trying to start it. Then, after you get it going, do an oil change on the pronto side

Whadda yas think on about lawn mowers that sit during the winter months? You drain the fuel out of the tank. Then when you get ready to fire it up for the spring, get fuel in the tank, yank on the rope a few times to wet up the cylinder, then connect the spark plug wire to fire it over to warm it up, then do an oil change afterwards.

I had a dsm down for about 3 months and I drained gas before start up. It was starting to have a funky smell to it

Actually, the carbs were completely overhauled prior to be used, tanks were flushed out and dried, new fuel filters placed on, thus no bad gas to get up to the top end-just that the oil had to stay in the pan and that was immediately yanked out when the block got warmed up to do the change.

Shoot... too many. When I first got it, took about 6 months to get money for a turbo. Then the longest... 9 months, finally after throwing all kinds of parts at it... found out it was the ECU. Been running ever since besides water pump and alternator belts getting loose and a punctured tire

How do you cope? I would sit quietly in my car and think....

I used to sit, and listen to the stereo for hours, with 4 24oz cans of Bud Ice or something when mine was down .

I blew my 14b 2 days after my birthday last year in june same night we were in tampa (we drove the car :/ had no choice ) went to a strip club an on the way home got pulled over an lisence taken tag taken an two tickets :/ (my bad no comment an No I wasnt screwing around) Now I just picked a 90 awd last month an I am in the delima of pulling my old 6 bolt an throwing it in or selling it an building my spare motor like I want to *sigh* decisions decisions :/

4 1/2 Years for me... you guys are newbies haha. I bought mine with a unfinished 6 bolt swap and it took me that long with no mechanical skills to start with to get it fixed. Been running strong for a year now and i learned a whole lot. I see it as my 4 year college degree

One week , hydraulic tensioner collapsed and I bent meself a bunch of valves so a rebuild is on it's way. Too bad my garage isn't big enough to house the dsm otherwise I would work on her everyday after work. It's a sucky feeling! Just take 5 minutes out of your day and sit in your car and talk with it haha.

its been about 2 months for me. now getting a shell for free with very little rust compared the one i have now and just have to swap everything over from mine interior wise and slap the motor in and shell be on the road again starting with 0 miles that day is gonna be one happy day

Well, my project 2g has been down for around 8 months, and my daily driver is off the road every other day. I have never owned a DSM that has been on the road longer that it has been off, and I am onto my 9th DSM. When I purchased My Laser(current DD) it was majorly lacking in maintenance, Took me a while to finaly get it sort of reliable while adding a few mods (s16g, fp race mani, punishment fmic, BC 272's, fidanza 4.3, fidanza flywheel, etc) .

If you own a DSM you must also love to work on it.

I bought my car and found out it was all screwed and it sat for 9 months while i bought parts for it....i just told everyone i sold it and i began to believe it myself!!!

well first my ecu went out but i thought it was other things so i went changeing stuff. finaly found out my ecu was out, had that fixed got it back in (that took 1-2 months) thenit was time to get my timing belt changed and BSE done kinda glad i took it to english racing cause they said (i have no idea how this things running with how much metal is running in this.) good thing they are strong engines =P so that engine rebuild was about 4 months..i cope'ed by reading everyone elses problems on here and looking at picture of mine on the trailer ='[ one thing i didnt know was these cranks where nitrated?? shop said that they where so i had to get a new/used one for my car cause there was a deep line in it.

July of '07 a 6.0 gto came calling and my crank decided it did not want a flywheel so it bounced around a bit. But I am back in the seat as of a few hours from now. The guys at the shop that I took it too the other day said it runs great for no tune. They also said I am lucky a unknown trans is perfect. <(new one in garage)

car hasn't been running properly since July of 2002. bought the car in Feb. 2009 and still haven't gotten it running yet .

Well I traded a fresh ass 92 Integra for my tsi last october, it had a front seal oil leak.. Drove it from Cincinnatti to Youngstown ohio (about 4.5 hours) Ran fine. I drove it for a few days then replaced that seal. 2 days later the Timing belt tensioner failed and smashed my valves and killed my pistons. Rebuilt the motor and then threw a rod through my block, rebuilt my motor got it tuned and spun a bearing. and now its almost rebuilt again and its not 1 year and 2 months later. I made the trip home and have driven it about 300 miles total while ive had it home. BLAH!
