How long was your DSM down for?

Okay, 180k miles and i been rebuilding my eclipse since End of September.

October, Ripped it all apart.
November, Finished Engine Bay, Paint.
December, Ran out of Funds.

Its been 3 months and it feels like i havent been able to drive my baby foreverrrrrr ... I ride around in my buddys Gs everyday and everyone compliments him on how nice his car is, that use to be me!

How long has your cars been down for, and how the hell do you cope!?

had mine since 06.... ive actually driven maybe 12 months in the span of those 3 1/2 years haha!

had the DL 1.8L for about 10-11 months... engine crapped out, swapped a 6bolt in it which was a almost a 2year process and now i have it finsihed but keep running into problems!!
Huge oil leaks,
huge exhaust leak,
huge boost leak,
Surging idle!!!!
Fixed all but idle and and boost leak so far.. im sure the idle will fix when i fix the boost leak!!

down for about 6 weeks for me -- picked up the car in ohio, needed a front bumper and hood repainted because of rock chips, as well as a new downpipe, and turbo elbow because the PO decided to strip the crap out of the threads for the o2

right when i get her all done, with paint job and 3 inch and turbo elbow, the t25 turbo starts mixing coolent and oil, this is my first turbo car and dsm so i was pretty sure the PO decided to go blow a headgasket on me but i did my research first and thank god it was the turbo -- ( it didnt help any that a week before i picked up the car the PO decided to go make 7 passes on the strip ) -- of course i learned all of this once i got out there to pick the car up -- hate dishonest people

anyway, found a t25 with 5K on it and shes been running great ever since -- the car had 44,600 when i got her and im in the 47's now -- figure ill run her close to stock with a few minor mods ( boost controler, injen cold air, and a 3inch downpipe) for a while,, im a college kid with more knowledge then money ,, rather have her run and get me home and have a little fun once in a while -- ill rip the motor out when she hits 90K or so and about 3-4 years from now and build her

in 3 years, i put on about 31k miles...

my 1st car (never had down time on it...) i put on 30k within a year, only driving around town, or going no further than 200 miles across state 3 or 4 times that year.

In the Talon, I took many trips, and could put on 1k in a weekend easy. I even drove it to MN from SC, stopping only for gas and food (1300 miles)


so my point is...i had ###### a good year and a half downtime, off and on. Between blown turbo, bad clutch, and loosing my DL.

My 90 na 4g63 has yet to let me down once and its sitting at 205xxxk on the original motor. I bought the car at 170xxx miles and have ragged on the car since since day one.

I have had my car since July 2003.

The tranny broke due to someone never changing the tranny oil in 76k miles.

That took 3 months.

Then a few other times, between having insurance and what not its been down for 2 years out of the 7 I had it.

I just rebuilt my 1st motor, fully built so I have a year of saving and 3 months to build it now and I'm almost ready to start her up.

My 95 has been down about 6 months. My alternator locked up and ate its belt. Then my hydro tensioner decided to eat it. My current issues are 3 of the 4 bolts on my driver side motor mount are screwed. Doing a hardware bolt swap in the morning. Current list of replaced parts are new ebay TB kit, and a 2 wire dsm alt instead of a 4 wire. I'm hoping to have her resurrected by this coming weekend.

My car hasn't been down, but it's been on the same power level (~400whp) for almost a year now...I haven't changed a thing since I started piecing together my 6-bolt build so all of my cash has gone to the build. I have 90% of the parts, the block is back from the machine shop, so I just gotta put it together and throw it in. I can't wait to feel more power, it's been a while.

I have 2 95 Talon TSi AWDs. I got both of them for free from my mechanic in September 09. They both came in excellent shape although one had a little body damage so i decided to build the green one up and use the white one for parts. Currently neither of them are running. i was planning to rebuild the 7 bolt block one of them came with but a friend of mine sold me his 90 GS-T. Cha-ching did i hear 6 bolt rebuild? Well his motor has already been rebuilt and only needed a new head gasket and timing belt but other than that the 6 bolt has less than 5k on it. So right now im eagerly awaiting Christmas for any money i might get because we all know how expensive DSMLINK is.

Right now to help me finish this 6 bolt swap i need:
HKS Timing belt
ARP head studs
DSMLINK v2/v3
Eprom ECU socketed + Keydiver chip

Things I have:
Evo3 Big 16g
550 Injectors
Original Burschur racing FMIC ($1,200 back in the day)
HKS SSQV II
GM MAFT Blow Thu Setup + GM LS1 MAF Sensor
3" Turbo back Magnaflow straight piping exhaust + Test Pipe ;]
3 bar 2.5" Reach Aluminum radiator
Complete head rebuild with revised BC springs and retainers
Injen intake with conical air filter

Im pretty excited for this build and i've been buying piece by piece as i've come along them and if anyone can tell me the type of horse power i can expect from the build im doing with the parts i have i'd greatly appreciate it. Im thinking at least 300? maybe more?

haha yea its a dsm thing i guess. i have 2 an the one i bought wen i was 15 an i am now 19 an i still hasnt hit the road:-( And my other one i have bin tearing down an fixing 6 times for over a year an a half and only put about 100 miles on in those 6 tear downs

4 years and some change, college got in the way of me repairing it. But technically i had never driven it when i got it non running. I drove it for the first time last week and let me tell you the smile on my face was worth the wait.

I am going on almost a year now and well after buying a blown turbo learned my lesson.
But a year of saving and some bonus check money from work replacing head studs and head gasket. New cams and and sring and retainers. Wideband and not to metion a brand new 50 trim.

haha i posted up on here a few weeks ago how i just got my babay running and one the road... and guess what.....??
Shes back in the drive way sitting!
Got some insane boost leak from this one time she creeped to 20psi..
that boost leak slowly turned into a vacuum leak in the intake line!
(boost leak is under boost.... and now at idle its sucking in extra air,..vacuum leak)
Now it sounds like its misfiring... i think from running rich it fouled out my plugs!!

And CANT FIND IT... tried a boost leak test... FAILED Nothing hissed but it wouldn't build pressure!!

anyway shes down again(about a week) and i just wanted to state that here haha!

Bought a 98 Eclipse GST in 2003 with 18,000miles on it... 1 1/2 years after driving the car with no issues whatsover a drunk driver crashed into it and car was down for 5 months... when it was fixed it was never the same..probelms galore so I sold it... I still miss the car so much and I sold that car 4 years ago.

I dd 2 dsms and keep my truck around - just in case. I will say that everytime one breaks, it's usually my fault for messing with it.

I usually cope by standing in my garage staring at it with a beer in my hand.
