Well, since it's become common place on the forums that oiling recomnedations aren't given out because every setup is different i get about 1-3 PM's or emails a week asking what restrictor to use, or to help some one pick a restrictor.. Now while i don't mind helping people out, there's a few things that need to be made clear

1.) If most/all the knowledgable respected members say you can't just use one from an internet suggestion, than it's because it's the honest truth.. if we make a suggestion and you blow your turbo to shreads then who's gonna be mad at who for making the suggestion???

2.) YOu will get the same answers on this topic via forums or PM'ing any of us that are versed in turbocharger rebuilding and setup.

3.)Although it's a rule not to reply with "use the search funciton" it's also a rule to use the search function before making new threads about topics that probably already have been beaten to death with the same Q&A's over and over again

4.)The only thing you need to do is lookup with the above feature any mix of the following terms (either in "title only" or "entire body and title" or however it's worded) I think if after all the years i've been here that if i can still use this feature and find my answers to things that i haven't seeen beaten to death than surely anyone new or stareting a new project can do the same and selectively read the threads that seem intelligent and come up with a way to solve their own issues and then through that learning process and it's results can help advise others on things as well as advise others on how to "test and setup" their own assemblies which in this case and many others will vary from car to car... nothing more so that the topics of "base maps" and "holset oiling" (or turbo oil feeds ingeneral) you can build two cars with all teh same parts and the fine tuned map on one will only run the other to the point of starting it well enough to allow it to be tuned.. running WOT on a map you down load is thoughtless and costly, the same goes for oil restriction setups and asking what some one else is running to pick theirs,

NOW, holsets are pickyu, and the mystique around their oiling and being a "do or die" situation is a little blown out of proportion but all for the better so people take it seriousely.

I'm not posting this to dog anyone, just to explain that no one can pick for you without physicallly being at your car to work on and test things unless they just give you a suggestion made by what they've seen posted the most (which is usually a .078" restrictor) and that answer is tossed around at anyone who asks about a restrictor by those who don't know really how to set one up right and just want to answer a post (at least that's what i see the most)and that suggestion MIGHT yield you a setup that's a little shy or a little heavy on oil and just happens to last on your car for a good while although not optimal..the OPTIMAL thing to do is setup a pressure gauge to the turbo after the restrictor and before the turbo, test pressure and adjust by either oil filter housing modifications from porting the reliefe valve or clipping the spring in it or BOTH in my case...but again there's no "magic restictor size" that's gonna just get you by easy withtout some elbow grease involved and give the results one should want and or exlect when putting in a new turbo and wanting it to perform and not die of oiling problems

I searched the words "custom", "holset", "install", and "oiling" under "title and body" and found my thread about my H1-3558x install that describes and pictorials the entire process from start to finish on my own oil solution which required more work than most people will have to deal with about 5 posts down. Then I searched again, and again found my thread as well as all these others below, made by others, that i used to learn to setup my systems oiling all on the first page of results every time and it took me maybe 5 minutes to search, copy and post these here, so there's no reason to say the search didn't give you the answeres you needed on this cubject which i've noticed is the common way to make the 10,000th post on a subject and not have to hear "search the forums". I advise anyone else to do the same.

When i'm bored i'll search anything i'm interested in on this site and read OLD threads i have never seen and i learn something every time, and i spend HOURS reading before usually making a post unless its' about breaking a part or my experience with soething, or to ask about other's experiences with a certain part and or setup.

So here's some links to get you all started with both good and bad results

This one is great along with the other 8+ threads linked in the first page that are all part of the "holset turbo series" of threads that helped me greatly

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/tur...turbos-part-8-a.html?highlight=holset+install

Now, if you read all this and still need help on setting up your system or testing it out, I'm glad to help as i'm sure many others are too, but without first doing the basics of testing pressure to the turbo from OFH as well as porting the OFH if needed and setting up the way to test the pressure to the turbo it's self. These are all things you MUST do before any of us can give you an honest recomendation on what to do next (and i don't mean what size restrictor to install, I mean how you should go about correcting what ever problem you're having with the processs to determine your own restrictor based on the cuides and methods we've all coem to utilize)

Then if you still have issues by all means feel free to drop me a PM about turbo oiling on a holset or setting up your system to learn what you need to do or ask how mine is doing and how mine is setup (all things i'm glad to help with) but what i can't and won't do is say "you need to run "X" restrictor and or line and you will be fine.. That's because if i told you that i'd be lieing to you, and that's something else i just won't do..

I hope no one takes thjis the wrong way, I just had 3 requests this week for picking the restrictor and one tonight about help with setting up the system and instead of typing all this via PM each time i figure i'll put it up in one solid post and if it's stickied all the better if not its' gonna show up under "holset"and "iling" when searched by title

BEst of luck to all those setting up and learning to set up these turbos, it's not as hard as you think, it just take sa little work on your behalf and maybe a few bucks in parts that you might not already have but will need either way..then when some one near you needs help you can physically jhelp them, and hopefully from this you'll learn why i've made this post after you've taken the proper steps in setting yours up on your own with these posts and our advice on here as guiding lights!
