I have been running some skar audio dual 12 in subs with a 1500 watt amp for a little while now and up until recently I was doing fine with a 90 amp alternator. A couple weeks ago my alternator tried to catch on fire, but all I had to do to get it to charge again was clean up all the electrical connections for it. I have my subs turned off now as I don't want to use them until I can find a suitable replacement for my alternator. So my question is how big of an alternator do I need to reliably use those subs without screwing something up. I found a 150 amp alternator on ebay with good reviews but I'm not sure if it's overkill or not enough as I'm very new to installing these over the top audio systems. Any help will be very appreciated.

With 1500 watt amp 125amp alternator is required but 150amp should be even better never bad idea upgrading when throwing more stuff in the party

Stick with major brands that been in the game. US Alternators, Mechman, etc. Contact Brand X on Facebook. I have a full custom, bagged 98 Dakota with custom audio (I'm an installer and fabricator). My Dakota has an external rectifier and Brand X alternators were really the only one with multiple alternator options for the truck.

Thank you I'll look into it
