Just bought this 95 GSX and I need to adjust the clutch pedal a bit, as has very little play off the floor before it engages, and I have trouble putting it into 1st gear sometimes (I get a grind), and I have to shift slowly into 2nd and 3rd.

I've found the video everyone recommends on youtube showing how to properly adjust it and I need to be able to access the slave cylinder to be able to manually move it to ensure the bleeder isn't blocked during my adjustment.

I've never seen underneath this car before and all I know is it is on the transmission. Can anyone give me a detailed description or even a photo so that I can find this thing when the time comes to make the adjustment?

The reason this is happening is because there was an upgraded clutch put on less than 10k miles ago and apparently it never got adjusted. Don't know anything about the clutch that was installed so I can't be specific.

The slave cylinder is located on the front of the transmission. It will have a fluid line attatched to it. You will see the slave cylinder rod pushing on the clutch fork, on the front of the trans. When you pop your hood look down at the trans and you should see it down there next to your front roll stop.

I did manage to find it by looking from above. It was difficult because the stock air box was in the way of viewing it. I'm not even sure if I can reach it from above. Maybe if the car was cool in the shade and nothing was hot.

Just jack it up, it is very easy to get to from the bottom.

The slave cylinder is in fact as described above. However, I think you may have misunderstood the adjustment would be at the Master Cylinder. The slave only has hydraulic movement and no adjustment. You can see the Master Cylinder if you look to the left of your clutch pedal on the inside, and the working parts are mounted on the firewall on the opposite side under the clutch fluid resovoir. Hppe this helps. Mc

Thank you emcee.

Actually, I wanted to find the slave cylinder so that I could manually push on it to make sure I didn't adjust incorrectly and close the bleeder valve on the mater cylinder. No worries :)

However, after adjusting the clutch the problem persists. I've done more research since then and I'm pretty sure my synchros are f*cked.

Easing into 1st without clutching produces an instant grind. Oh well, I've learned how to handle it as-is, and I've gotten decent at rev-matching when shifting, so I'll live with it until I have the tranny rebuilt. Honestly, 2nd and 4th gears are the only ones I have no problems with. 1st, 3rd, and reverse are touchy at times. 5th is mostly OK. I also plan to change the tranny oil soon and maybe things will clear up a little. Probably not.

When was the last time the trans oil was changed? Changing the oil for me got rid of most of my rough gears and grinded a lot less. Or your clutch could be improperly adjusted.

It's hard to get under there and choking the tranny oil if you take the oil to jiffy live they will do it for free

It really isnt needed to jack the car up, you can easily fit your arm there by laying on the ground if you're just trying to depress the slave. OR! You could loosen the two hose clamps and three lines and the MAF clip and just remove the air box and get access from the top.
