Guys, my car has been down nearly a month. My remanufactured autozone alternator went out on my talon, I get another one, it goes out within a week!! I got a brand new one from the dealer for $294 and it didnt fit, they said it must be the $420 one!! Is there any place on the net thats cheaper than this?? I have to get it on the road ASAP! I will not buy anything else but NEW!!!

Where is your electrical problem? Did Autozone uphold the warranty on its part?

Sounds to me like your car is eating the alternators, not the alternators themselves going bad...

My first autozone alternator lasted a year, then went out. I get a replacement from them and it goes out in a weeks time, I also heard the alternator howling before it went, sounded like the bearings. I went back to them and they said that they dont have anymore at the time in their warehouse so they gave me a refund. I dont think its my car, I think its those remanufactored pieces of junk!!

Remanufactured alternators and starters depend on the specific shop in your area who's doing them. Alternators "fail" because the rectfier goes bad, regulator quits, slip ring bruses wear out, or a bearing fails. The wiring and its insulation going away is much more rare.
If you're near a rebuilder (and most of us are), having them refurb your factory alternator can be a bargain. If you have a good shop around who does electric motors (well pump shops, for instance) they may do one for you, too. And, they can do a re-wind on it to give more output.

 $420??? Screw that dealer

I got my oem 75 amp from Conicelli Mitsu in PA. for about $200. This was after 3 pep boys units went bad in a short period of time. Now with my oem I have absolutely no problems. The only Mitsu dealers I deal with is Tallahasse, Fla. and Conicelli in Pa. Mention club DSM for discounts.

I've owned my talon for 8 yrs but I just discovered these dsm boards and the resources to get parts and services done the right way about 2-3 yrs ago. Before that I was at the mercy of my local Mitsu and eagle dealers. Here are some price quotes for a few parts I've gotten over those years:

$1600 = 13g turbo
$400 = 1g exhaust manifold
$250 = 13g turbine housing
$450 = 2" dp
$1000 = 1g ecu
$900 = tcu
$150 = isc motor
$75 = boost solenoid valve
$2300 = valve job after t-belt broke
etc...
