my alternator is acting really weird (this is my 2nd reman in a 6 month period) this time it was good for awhile then when my car is warm the alt lights come on and its putting out 12 volts (on the greddy tt) when i rev up to around 3k the lights go off. but the thing is it doesnt do it at all on a cold start. could this be another crappy reman or is there something wrong with my cars wiring?

another crappy reman.

after blowing the alt that came with my car and using remans, i never had one that lasted more than 4 months. remans are hit and miss like that. sounds like the internal regulator or flux capacitor(joke). but since nobody carries a plug to test our alts, just take it back and get another one. pretty soon, youll get to know the clerks at the counter and theyll know as soon as you pull up to bring up a alternator on their screens.

having a similar issue, just wondering if you found out for sure what the problem was.
i'm getting 14.35-14.38v on a cold start, and only 12.5-12.7v after a 10 minute drive in 80 degree weather, low idle when its warmed up now, and if it sits and idles for a couple minutes the battery light will come on so i'm pretty sure its on its way out.

well did some more checking and after letting it idle for 10 minutes i was seeing high 13 volts, drove it around for about 15 minutes and parked it, and while it was running showing 11.5 volts.....rev it up....11.5 volts. so something wasn't working right once it got hot. picked up an alternator from kragens and its working great so far. i'll update if/when it goes out. LOL

See I wouldnt trust your greddy tt, I thought i wasnt getting good voltage after i swapped my alt. because it would read between 12.8-14.0v and i knew it shouldnt go below like 13.2 so i tested with a voltometer and the tt was getting a bad reading

Hey guys i have a question regarding my alt too. I took my dsm to a mechanic and it was reading 12 volts so i assume i have to replace it since my battery was tested as good in autozone. Anyways, i had my mechanic also put in a new ps belt and ac belt and they are tightened good ( my belts are aligned good and not jumping). Now i hear a squealing and it sounds like it soming from the alternator area. If an alternator goes bad does it let out any ugly squealing noises ? it sounds like a belt might need some mopre tightening but he says its the alternator. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Its possible it could be the bearings in the alternator but most likely its the belt.

Make sure you have NO Power Steering Fluid leaks dripping on your Alt - that will kill the Voltage Regulator in a Heartbeat & can toast your ECU... If you haven't replace EVERY O Ring on your PS Pump you need to NOW.

I put it on Car Ramps & come from underneath so no need to remove Fan - It's still a PITA...

- I had my Bumper to Bumper guy look up the Highest Amp Mitsu Alternator that would fit a 1G:

- Max amperage 121 amps

- 100 amps at 3000rpm

- Max 1548 watts

- Manufacturer Ampere - Ampere P/N 21491

- Cost was about $150.00

- I run a 1 Farad Cap too with an El-Cheapo Battery that pushes a 500 Watt Sony Amp & head Unit no problems - no dimming, etc.

Thanks for the help but it was the alternator. I changed it and no more ugly loud squealing. Also buck thanks for the heads up, i never really thought of that,i do have a small ps leak on my washer so i will have that replaced. Thanks for the help guys
