Well I was doing a blt yesterday at 35psi regulated pressure and the gage on the tester would only go up to 10-12psi. I could here the leak so I got out the soapy water and sprayed in the area on the turbo where the c-clamp keeps the compressor housing on and its leaking pretty bad in the area between the c-clamp pictured. I went to a local diesel shop and asked them was there something to stop that since there's no place for a o-ring and they said there hx-35(ones that come on trucks) uses bolts there instead of a clamp. Wondering if any of you guys running this style of hx-35 with the clamp have noticed this leak, because the turbo still runs good and there is no shaft play. I'm running SD, but still need to get this figured out so I can test the rest of the system.

I have a sputter/breaking up problem which led me to this blt, but I'll start another thread for that since possible they aren't related because some say SD doesn't care about boost leaks.

What u will half to do is take off the comp cover and put a small bead of high temp silicone to help seal where the the turbine backing meets the comp cover and let it dry before u test it again or drive it.

Should have bought that gt3076r I told you so you don't have this issue. It has a big oring that seal the compressor housing.:hellyeah:

Your slight boost leak problem is common with Comp turbo too. There is a leak at the valve guide of most external waste gate too. Check there too. This is not your misfire issue. Look some where else. You have speed density. The car will drive with the intercooler pipe off.

Holsets also have the big o-ring that goes around the compressor cover. I always just run a small bead of the orange hi temp silicon whenever i have to remove it for whatever reason.

When you buy a rebuild kit they send you the large compressor cover o-ring. I'm not sure if it is sold separate or not.

This turbo was brought new and didn't have a o-ring. I don't think there is a place for one on this turbo.

I know its not my breaking up/stutter problem but still needs to be fixed. You just make sure you get them junk cars out the garage and make room.

As far as the o-ring I did find this... http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/335171-misc-holset-questions.html

Yes i hate that leak, it's mot a c clamp it's a snap ring, there looks like it could be a place
For an o ring on my hx40
But it did not come with one and i got it brand new. This is one major reason i am considering going fp3586 or fp3794 i have rtv'd mine twice and I'm pretty sure it's still leaking. I sort of miss ball bearing turbos.

This has been discussed hundreds of times in the many Holset threads already on this site. Literally hundreds.

No there's not an o-ring on about 99% of HX35's out there...yes you can use RTV sparingly, and make sure the cover is clocked before the RTV dries or it will glue the cover in place however it dries.

Notice the word "sparingly"...use too much of that crap and your turbo rebuilder will call you everything but human should the turbo ever need serviced. ;)

Thanks for clearing that up and I posted a link about the o-ring that I found on this site(post7). Hope I don't put to much or you'll have to come up with some names. :)

Now, the v-band was grinded down some for the 2.5" 90* coupler but if you look in the pic it doesn't fit snug around the housing and there was a leak there also. Wondering if a 2.25 to 2.50 90* coupler will fit and snug it up? You can see it in my pic but here are some pics from Clint's Garage Hx-35 install. T-bolt is being used.
