i recently stopped driving my eclipse for two days because of a misfire i was getting parts for , when my dad went out to drive it he said that the shifter is hard or stiff . when i got home to check it out it was hard to move to reverse , neutral and such like it was metal rubbing on metal like if its lost lubrication or something ,when i drove it every thing seemed fine , every gear was shifting and everything. the problem was just the knob or something . not really sure what to look for or how to fix it so if you guys have any suggestion please respond

I have a 1997 eclipse (automatic) and i didnt drive it for 2 days and when i went to drive it again everything turned on like fine but when i went to shift it to drive it felt really tough and hard it like jerked with no smooth transition to any gear took it for a drive and everything seemed fine every gear was shifting correctly only thing was the shifter and how rough transition it makes if you have any recommendations on what to do or how to fix it please respond, thank you

spray lubricant spray on all moving parts on the shifter and outside on the trans.. if that doesnt fix it then the cable might be going bad...
