Trans is for '91 Galant VR4 and I need to know what is the hole for. It is between back up switch and mounting bracket.

Yup. Nothing goes there. I use that hole to attach a chain to hoist for removal.
That is probably a best kept secret. Using a cherry picker to lower and raise a trans has been the best method of RNR I have found.

Very good news guys, thanks. Is it easy to pull the trans away from the engine while the chain is holding up the trans?

Removing the F5M33 from a turbo swapped base model is easy compared to a W5M33. I told my buddy that I would find another way to get the trans back on (other than using a transmission jack) after rebuilding it. Using a cherry picker crossed my mind.

Think there’s more room on a fwd due to the subframe. I’ve used a floor jack on my 2g awd no problem but I feel the 1g awd has less room. Got my trans jammed somehow and had to pick up a hoist to finish the job.

The threaded hole appears to be a M12 x 1.25 but such a bolt starts for a few threads but does not go further easily. I do not want to force it so wanted to check here.

I will check it out. Thanks Tony.
Any time Paul. I see you have the reverse switch installed in the pic, remove that when installing/removing the trans as it can break getting caught on the frame rail.

I literally just "let it fall" and maneuver the trans on the trans jack once the input/output shafts were clear of the flywheel. Had to jack the car up pretty high but it came out once I let gravity help and quit fighting. The differential housing was hitting where the "gusset" (forgot to remove) is installed.
