I recently installed a new Greddy RS BOV onto my 1G. After installation I took it out for a run and it seemed to work pretty good at around 10 psi.

A day later I decided I'd do a boost leak test on the it just to make sure everything was still good. To my surprise at 12 psi - 20 psi my new Greddy BOV is leaking out the front valve. I tightened it down alittle toward the "hard" side but with no luck. No matter where I turn the top screw it still leaks air, but it doesnt just leak... you can put your hand in front of it and feel the air rushing out.

I'm guessing that the BOV I recieved in the mail from SlowBoy racing is a dud?

Right, I've already read all the posts about the Greddy RS. Unfortunatly all those threads dont cover my problem, thats why I started a new thread.

Like I said, its leaking air out of the front valve. The area where the air is supposed to come out of when you shift. I would say its more than just a leak though, you can feel the air shooting out during a boost leak test.

I tried adjusting the screw but nothing stopped the air from pouring out that big 40mm valve.

Is the actual diaphram inside the BOV seem to open during your boost leak tests to allow all that air out?

Yup, I can stick my finger inside the BOV and kinda muffle the sound of the air coming out. But no matter how hard I turn the top screw the air keeps coming out.

The springs and boost pressure via the hose from the intake manifold hold the BOV closed when you're boostin.

Once the throttle plate closes, the boost from the intake manifold turns into vacuum and pulls up on the rubber membrane and springs.

If you have a leak thru the BOV vent, chances are you have a hole in this rubber membrane.

Take a look at this little write up that 99mmcgsx from DSMTalk put together.

I guess your original post was not very clear to me. But in your second post you spell out your issue. Actually, there was a thread not too long ago where some else had a similar issue with a Greddy Type-S.

I highlighted the red so you can see how I could mistake your problem.

Good post Strm Trpr :thumb:

Sorry guys, I should have spelt it out a little better that my problem was with the valve and not the adjustment screw.

Wow, that autocad diagram is amazing and its exactly the same problem I'm having. Sucks my brand new BOV is having this problem though, but at least it seems to be an easy fix.

I'll have to remove my BOV and get that rubber replaced! :thumb:

Hey man, I read your post and I just to let you know I have had the exact same issue. Unfortunately, (I know you don't want to hear this) but the only way that i have been told to fix it (And now i believe it) is to buy another one. I received mine from dejon and after about 15 minutes of driving, I found out that the diaphram (sp?) would not seal properly. I called up dave and he politely sent me a new one. Now my new one works great! I know you said that you got yours from Slowboy, and I guess if they will let you, try to exchange it for another one.

Just out of curiousity... do you hear any whistling when you are driving really slow (Ex: pulling into your garage, driving through a parking lot, etc.)?
And did you use RTV on the gasket of the BOV?

Ok, well I took a trip to RRE tonight and lets just say it was the best DSM expeirence I've ever had. Robert and Scott hooked it up!

My BOV problem ended up being my diaphram was kinda kinked inside the top of the BOV. Fortunatly it wasnt ripped, so Robert put it back in properly and it fixed my boost leak problem!

thanx everyone for the helpful advice.

Yea, I was talkin to the guys at RRE about those Dejon BOV's and they're just chinese ebay knock offs of the Greddy's and the diaphrams are made of really cheap rubber. So dont expect to get much life outa your BOV.

I dont trust slowboy one bit anymore, it took them 5 months to refund my money on parts I never recieved from them. I'm not buying anything from them anymore.

I've never heard any whistle blowing from my BOV and I didnt use any RTV on it either. When I put the gasket on I used some kinda copper spray style gasket sealant. It seems to work great!

If I was you though, next time your dejon takes a dump on you I'd spring the money for the real deal. Thats the advice I got from the DSM gods at RRE.

On a side note, I saw the sickest Evo doing a 4 wheel burnout while I was there.. sooo sick!!

he stated that the BOV had a kinked diaphram, so it was fixed
