I am wanting to go with an external wastegate off of the o2 housing. I Know that i am going to go with a punishment MS housing with the recirculate dump.

I currently have a FP big t28 and the question is do I just remove the flapper and all. I was told that their is like a 1/2 or 5/8 that I would need to fill. I go to school for a machinist so any of the welding or maching is no problem.

Sorry if it is short, but didn't really know how to describe it. Hopefully someone will understand and help me out.

If you remove the flapper, there will be a small hole where the flapper arm attaches to your old wastegate acuator. Just fill that in and you should be fine. I had an actual plug welded into my old internal wastegate housing that blocked off both holes, but I am dumping from the exhaust manifold.

Thats what i thought I would have to do. I was just going to machine down and rod to put in there and then have it welded in.

Got another question. If I go off of the manifold, would I have to buy a new housing since I have a the megan racing tubular one and the top hole where the internal gate is would be blocked off. A buddy told me I would have to, but I didn't know. I would almost rather go off of the manifold, but didn't want to buy a new mani and o2 housing.

Thanks for the help though..

It would depend on the mounting position of the wastegate on your manifold. The problem would be routing the dump tube around your current o2 housing. If you can build a dump pipe that goes around it, then you should be just fine. If you were to get the new manifold and didn't want to buy a new o2 housing, I'd chop off the o2 recirc pipe that comes on it. Then you could either weld your external to route into the hole in the downpipe (if you still want to recirculate) or weld some metal over the hole and dump to the ground.

I just picked up a tdo6 20g and I went with external off the manifold. The 20G came with the flapper removed to I basically made my own o2 housing gasket and got rid of the whole so it's like welding it shut. Do you have a picture of your current set up? Oh and I had to cut a little into my cf hood to make my hood close without hitting the tial 38mm.

When I went external on my MHI Evo III 16g, I just cut the flapper arm, removed it and welded the hole shut where the arm was. I didn't stick anything in there. I suppose you could turn around and use a piece of that flapper arm it's self.

I am not sure what kind of steel that thing is made out of but it's tough stuff. took a while to cut it.

It's made out of cast right? I was going to do what you did but ended up just making my own gasket in school blocking off that hole.

Picture is a quite old, but it works. Here is my TiAL 38mm with the cast SBR manifold:

It clears everything...I was even able to keep both stock fans.
