I was told by a rollcage manufacturer that the an 8 point chromoly was around 59lbs. compared to 89lbs. for the mild steel. So I wouldn't doubt the 6 point is somewhere around 40lbs. Way to get out there and meet those goals Pneumo, you're making it look easy! Good looking car too. Give us some more times once you get the new clutch installed.

Congrats Dave!! Looks like i'll be ordering up a Plate Soon ;)

def. congrats as a newb to tuning and me owning an auto dsm anyways trying to follow your post about shift points and such was confusing for me LOL. but i think i got it after reading it a few times. good stuff! and again congrats on the new time!

so when's the next trip out dave? i think i'll be ready not this wed, but next wed.

I'll see about borrowing a video camera from a friend to see if we can get some video's WITH ZOOM!!

Thanks everyone. I plan on going again next week if the track is open. I haven't checked the schedule yet.

Oh yeah, the car I raced against was a clean 1950's classic hot rod, nice teal color. Since we were in eliminations by then and he dialed in at 12.78 he got to go first. I had to wait, then it was my turn to chase! I dialed an 11.05. I caught and passed him just before the line. I wouldn't know what time I ran until I got the timeslip from the booth at the end of the return lane. It was funny, I was cruising back on the return lane saying outloud, 'good run, good run', wondering what time I ran. Then it dawned on me, the guy I ran against is really good. He always runs within a few hundreths of his dial. So if I passed him by a lot, and I dialed an 11.05, then that means I ran a ten, right? I was soo anxious to get the timeslip!

No more pics tonight. I came down with a cold yesterday. Right now I'm planted on the couch with a half empty bottle of Nyquil in one hand, a damp 6'x6' hankie in the other, and a wireless keyboard on my lap. I ain't going anywhere for a while. :) :phoot: :gronk:

Ok fly me down and ill race for ya. :thumb:

Or he could let one of us locals drive........ :sneaky: :sneaky:

congrads on the run, if anyone can drive the snot out of a car, its dave. Dave, I say you throw some NAWZZ on that bad boy and get into the 9's already. GOD, whats taking you so long. I mean, you took two whole outings before you ran 10's..... thats way more than enough.

(seriously though, who runs a 10.829 on their 4th time down the strip with a completely new set up, thats insane)

I don't have school anymore, woot woot. I have work every wednesday this month though, I don't know why. danny will just have to videotape your next outing. If you wanna help me get my block/tranny out, you can borrow my 2600, LOL.

haha, after your 110+mph san pablo damn rd. turn incident, we know it wont be you! haha
and, im too afraid to drive that beast... id rather crash my own car snatching 2nd gear at 8200rpm
Maybe he'll let ron drive it, cause we know ron will just ####y foot it around like his supra...

Dave, I'm down to tape, i have to ask one of my friends if i can borrow a real camera with zoom, but if i cant get one then we'll use yours again. If im racing my car too, then i'll park it at the back of the last line, so i can tape you then run to my car to start it up in time to race! YOu better get there first though!

i think all the dohc heads are the same size, Dave had to get one from the junk yard if i remember right... dont quote me on that though.

The porting is removing castings and unshrouding the valves, he might have had to enlarge the bowl a little... im not sure on that one again... we'll wait for what dave has to say. As far as i know, he did all the same porting on my head, unless he had to enlarge his combustion chamber in diameter. Otherwise, its just removing rough spots/ping marks/ smoothing edges and unshrouding valves.

"Ported 1.6L DOHC head"

Explain more on this?

Good question. I kinda lucked out on that head.
Once upon a time I blew my motor, so I called MitsuGraveyard and asked for a useable head that I could build up. It had a couple bad valves, so I got it cheap. I didn't know it was off a 1.6l motor until I got it. All measurements checked out, same size ports, same 13mm diameter head bolt holes, etc. so I could bolt it on no problem. The ports were a little cleaner than most 6 bolt heads, so it didn't need as much work behind the valve seats. The ports blended with the seats better. The only catch was the 1.6 motor has 83mm bore, and the block/piston I was using has 86.5mm bore, so there was some area where the head stuck out over the piston and ended at a sharp edge. That edge would've created a large hotspot and caused terrible knock, so I radiused the sharp edge just enough to smooth it out, but not so much that the ridge was eliminated. There is still a small lip that overhangs the bore then it blends in with the rest of the head. It's sort of like having a quench pad running around the entire circumference, rather than just at the intake and exhaust sides. I don't know for sure if it's reduced knock much, but the motor has been running strong for the past two years. I don't have any phantom knock issues with this motor, and I used to have PK on the previous motor (the one that eventually blew).

I'm sure there are many of you who'd like to drive my car, but the truth is the seat and driving position only fits me. The seat isn't adjustable either. It rocks though! It's like having a custom tailored suit: everything is in the right place. I can reach 5th gear without leaning over, it's within arms reach. I can comfortably push the clutch to the floor without overextending. Like I said, it's all business and it's where I get the job done. No lo-rider here esay :)

Danny, I'm running in Comp Rod now, next lanes over. There's a little time between CR and Sport Street so you can take a vid then hustle back for your run.

I thought the 1.6l engine was a sohc only engine???

hey, whats the deal with comp rod, you have to be runnng fast? or is it a little competition every night and you have to pay a little more money??

from the sps view... you guys over in comp rod are all business! haha (except for the red honda with slicks that still runs 14's every week...

Comp Rod is the same price, Jackpot is where they pay extra and give a cash prize for win, 2nd and 3rd. Sport Street and Street are for cars that run 12.0 and slower, although they tolerate a high 11 second car. I told the tech inspector that I might run a ten, and he said I had to run in CR.
"OK!"

I bet you have to be on point to drive in comp rod. No rookie moves Dave, like driving through the lights, or staging both lights before the other guys even staged one. I know you already know this, but i hate when the other guy im racing doesnt... Probably no tolerance in comp rod though, i expect it when im racing sports street. I dont really care though because im usually faster than the other car...unless im racing an evo or something, but those guys are cool and know how to drive.

Good luck. I hope there isnt any traffic at 3 when i leave... I think the carpool lane is 2 people... anyone trying to ride up with me? Dave, PM me ron's number, i'll call him and see what he's doing.

Hey you have a nice mod list why haven't you broke into tatleast the 12's yet? The 16g with built motor and cams w/ meth/water injection and dsmlink sounds liek recipe for 11's even.

Well i havent put enough time in at the track yet. The meth injection is uninstalled at the moment. Last time i was at the track, i went 13.7 at 10psi on the car how it is, i went to turn up the boost to 15 and the old 195k mile 3-bolt ate an axel inside. So i bought a 4-bolt put it in, drove around having fun at 15psi with 100 octane in the tank, and when i filled up again i turned the boost down to 10psi and have been getting a rediculous amount of knock and wierd a/f ratios. So i'm going to be doing a boost leak test on the car and figuring out why im running so lean (possibly still too lean for 10psi/91 octane with the same tune that i had the 15psi 91/100 mix, possibly my dumbass put 87 in the tank...?) and i just havent been driving the car hard. Everytime ive drivin it hard it breaks, but i dont really have much more to break. Im kind of at that point where i need to do a bunch of maintainence again before i run the car. Hopefully it'll be done by next wed and i'll be tuned at 15psi and ready to break into 12's and then faster once i can get some $$ and some time at the dyno to really turn up the boost.

Id have all this done faster if i could go to my friends jiffy lube on wednesday to get all my fluids changed... but i have to go videotape for dave so he can have some proof and a video for this thread! I dont know when the next time i'll be able to get over there... the moons aligned for wednesday, his boss is leaving early, and i get out from work at about the same time, so i can just shoot over there and change my trans/tcase/rear diff. fluids. But i promised dave i'd film for him and i cant do both without getting stuck in traffic.

Anybody from SF want to roll up with me to tape dave running another 10? IT'll work for me because I can hit the carpool lane, if not, I get stuck in traffic and it'll take me a while to get up there...possibly missing dave's elimination round.

LOL, does this remind you of anything danny?

I thought the 1.6l engine was a sohc only engine???

yeah, the 1.8L engine was sohc only, the 1.6L came as a dohc on the colt turbo, the badest motha f*&#in 1.6 liter engine ever created.... i think.....

got ya yeah sbr joe just posted a link to a car in a nother thread did low 10's with 16g no nitrous and a only lightly gutted car:rocks:

oooooooorrrrr i was talking about that pm i sent you back when i was just a wee newblet, but (pre post edit to not jinx danny) *&^*^%&%^&*%^. I wish I could say I would come out and watch you guys, but i have work this wednesday, and next monday i start pole vaulting 3 times a week in los gatos from 6 pm - 8 pm. I think this happened last year too, except my car ran last year.

I'm aiming for tens but as I'm realizng slowly but usrely these stock cams with smim and big turbo are KILLLLLLLLLING me:mad:

The car pulls like mad then makes a noise like a car with a blownheadgasket(eird pitched sucking noise) I'm assuming this is the car choking or the internal wastegate blowing open but when it happens the boost doesn't move the car just stops pullin and it will only happen above like 5-6k.
