...so the new driveshaft on your car...is simply amazing. ::insert every 'OMG its so...biiiggg!' joke i can think of here::

tuff break tonight man...really looking fwd to seeing the car beast it!! Didnt you do...14.8 tonight, at 123mph? ha!

Well went to the track again to see what it would do, messed up on the launch so I cruised down the track. Pulled into the staging lanes to find out that the car was spilling oil every where! Took the timing cover off tonight, couldn't find anything wrong, so we took off the timing belt to find out that the oil pump gear was extremely hard to turn. Took the oil pump case off and inspected it, the stubby shaft was perfect but the other shaft with the bigger gear on it was screwed!!!
So with that being said, I don't know what i'm going to do, :hmm: I think i'm ready to give up and part it out:barf: This just pisses me off!!!

Sorry to hear that! I've seen that happen before when the car was over revved. A new front case/oil pump and all was well again. A decent used front case isn't all that much... you are so close with such a bad ass setup!

Dang man, Don't give up, your so close to 10's. I'm on my quest for 11's this year in my car. We all have the bad but that goes along with the good. Just think it will be worth the frustration when you get your first 10 :)

Yeah it just sucks bad!! Everything was brand new with less that a 1000 miles! I'm only reving at max 8800rpms. I just don't know what any other options are? It wasn't the stubby shaft failure, it was the other shaft and gear!

What brand pump was it? I have an OEM with straight cut gears in my 6bolt and I was turning 9000 with no problems, with a bsek. But I have a fluidampr just to be safe but that won't help the oil pump problem.

If Oakland was closer I would offer to give you a hand. One day when the cars are running we will have to get together and take them to the track.

Is that something I should do, the oem and straight cut gears? I'm trying to find out what is the best setup for it! As soon as I get this thing together, im going to the track again! On the oil pump, the gear dug into the case on an angle! weird!!!

From what they say on the link forums is that the helical gears don't like the radial load as much as the straight cut gears. Removing the balance shaft causes more side to side not countered by the shaft itself.

I would make sure you file the edges of the gears that way there is no possible way for the gears to dig into the housing just in case.

Thanks man, will look into this!

I am 100% positive tht melling makes a oil pump for 2G's, but I am not sure about 1g's. If they do, take the time to get one. great pump. I use it on my car, and thus far I have not have any problems. I am not a fan of buying parts that are used. Especially, the oil pump. But, great luck on hitting the 10's. There is no doubt that in my mnd that you will get into the 10's and beyond.

Every thing went well with the oil pump install! Have to meet a jusmx141 tomorrow to pick up some BradPenn motor oil, nobody around me sells it! Going to try again this Thursday to claim a 10sec pass! Maybe third time charm!

Good luck on getting that 10 second time slip. Your car has 10's with ease! Hopefully I will get my car to the track this weekend to claim another 10 second pass on the new set up! :)

Thanks guys!!!! Yeah I try not to mess around, and get things done!
I really want 10s and not going to stop untill I get one!

Congrats to Dave on all of the hard work, dedication, and getting a HX40 (built by yours truly) into the 10's with 2.0 on a limited budget!

The third pass of the evening was the best; Dave dipped into the 10's even with a sub-par launch and 60ft. Sadly, he was only the third-fastest 4-cylinder in the street lanes, bested by a Dodge Neon R/T that was fully built and turbo'd (10.5 @ 135), and a VERY stock-appearing black Evo IX that was insane. The Evo was having a tough time getting a good launch together but ran a 10.8 at one point, and the last pass of the night the car trapped 140mph! WTF

Keep in mind this is being done on a very conservative tune (10.7 AFR's on VP110) at just 30-32psi. This is literally the tune that got the car running following the full build over the winter. Once the boost is upped, Dave gets some seat time to get used to his new setup, and Ricky does some fine-tuning, who knows where he will be.....10.4 @ 138? :sneaky:
