Ok I already did a search on this but I couldn't seem to find a post that really answers all my questions so I figured I would ask. I have a few questions...

1) I have heard you can use the 3 inch or 3.5 inch GM MAF's or the 2G Eclipse MAF. Is one of these MAF's a better choice or are they all generally going to be the same?

2) I am assuming the cheapest place to get one of these is a junk yard right?

3) I am in the process of purchasing the SBR FMIC Street version. They give you an option for $50 more for Blow Through which I have heard has something to do with the MAF mod. Is this a good idea to use the Blow Through option and if so can someone just explain to me what the other options are as oppose to blow through?

4) When using Blow Through you still utilize a BOV I am assuming, right?

5) I know vfaq.com has a write up for a 2G MAF install but I was just wondering if the wiring segment of it is the same for a GM style MAF? If not does anyone have a write up on a GM MAF install?

Sorry for all these questions, this is my second Turbo car (I had an Evo 8 before this) so I am still trying to learn as much as I can and like I said for some reason I couldn't find what I was looking for with the search.

junkyard, yes, that would be the cheapest place to get one but in most cases if it's fault, then you're SOL. so it's up to you.

blow through set up is the most common and it places the sensor after the bov (between the bov and the throttle body) and it allows you to vent your bov to atmosphere (so yes, you will still need a bov)

Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it! Now I just need to find out if I am better of getting a 2G MAF or a GM MAF.

ok...

if you want to run a gm maf, you'll need a maf-t (mass air flow translator)which changes the signal so our ecu's can read them. there are several links on here if you do a search that will explain to you what it does and how it works.

you can't use a stock 2g maf.

Thanks man, that is exactly what I was looking for! So basically I need a GM MAF and the MAFT... Do you know of any good places to get both of these peices in working condition? Just like you said, I can get them at a junkyard but I would be very weary about the condition of them and weather they work or not.

yes the 2g maf is better then the 1g maf, but the gm is the best since it is a hotwire type and not karmen (less restriction) and it also allows you to vent your bov which is why a lot of people get it.. ROFL

if you go on the classified section on here i'm sure you could find the sensor and the maf-t. you can also try dsmtrader and ebay.

glad i could be of service.

Alright, looks like all my questions are answered then! A member just sent me a PM saying he would sell me his MAF and couplers to covert it to 2.5 inch piping for $75 which sounds fair... Now I just have to locate the maf-t which I will go hunting for now... Anyone got any pics of what it looks like just so I know what I am "hunting" for?

Oh and one more thing... Are there any writeups on the GM MAF install with pics? I can't find one but it sure would be helpful :)
