Does anyone know if they are the same? The sub frame cracked in half on my fwd and I can only find a awd replacement. Thanks guys.

FWD and AWD subframes are different. I am extremely surprised you cannot find any 1G FWD subframes as they are all the same: 1.8L, 2.0L, auto, manual, turbo, non-turbo.

The AWD subframe will physically bolt in your car, but the major difference is that it puts the steering rack higher to clear the transfer case, and the AWD has 2 north/south beams and an extra east/west. The rack is easy to deal with, You'll just need the shorter awd steering universal shaft, and the awd knuckles. The extra cross member is easy to solve too. All you need to do is add two mounts to the body, like in the picture. I'm not sure about engine mounts. You may be able to get away with you fwd ones, or you may need to find awd ones.

Keep in mind if you do this, you about 1/3 of the way to an awd swap.

Alright, so ill be getting a fwd subframe, what's involved with removing it? Any of the suspension or steering components need to be removed or is it just the 4 or so bolts that hold it on?

Um... Yea... Go jack the car up and get it on stands high enough for you to roll around under it. Take a good look around under there. Removing the front subframe is fairly involved and isn't just a few bolts. Think about everything attached to it, supported by it, and in the way of removing it. All that stuff has to be suspended, or detached, or removed to get it out.
