Funny situation, I have a real EVO3 turbo and an Ebay 16g turbo..

Well, I picked up a brand spanking new ebay evo3/16g turbo setup from a local here for $125 bucks the other day. But I also have a real one en route that I got for a good price. What do you guys think I should do here? You want comparison pics of the turbos side by side, comparison vids? Do you want me to install the ebay one and see how long it runs and how well it runs, then if it blows to install the real MHI Evo3? Throw me some ideas. I'll try to entertain them.

ADDITION TO THE THREAD:

With all due respect here. I think a lot of people on both sides are being HEAVILY MISLEAD by others. The MHI turbo with the install kit will in NO WAY cost you only $75 more then the ebay setup. Where is everyone getting their numbers from? The ebay turbos with the install kit and an ebay j pipe will cost you under $300. The MHI turbo's with the same wil cost you $700+

Guys please get your numbers straight here. I am not a cheapskate or a poor starving college student. If you look at the pictures- I have a relatively new MHI turbo in the pictures right next to the ebay turbo and both are mine. I'm not doing this to save a couple of bucks but to prove a theory we have.

One warning I will put in caps here for those who may buy an ebay turbo and ebay install kit.

90% OF THE BOLTS, STUDS, ETC ON THE EBAY TURBO INSTALL KITS ARE THE INCORRECT SIZE. BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL WHEN USING EBAY INSTALL KITS. IF IT DOESNT' THREAD IN HALFWAY WITH YOUR FINGERS- IT IS THE WRONG SIZE, HEED MY WARNING

I also bought the same exhaust. it was loud and obnoxious so i ordered the vibrant stealth muffler and had a shop weld it on. Does anyone know if the ssautochrome "16G" turbos are the same chinese turbos as everyone else?

that vibrant exhaust was great! I think all the turbos are the same.

Great question about it being Chinese. Im not tryna go with a "made in china" turbo.

OR is Made in China good? vs Japan i mean. Since its SUPPOSE to be a Japan made car??

What if the exhaust has a Silencer? Like this:

Because i DONT want an exhaust that is TOO loud. Thats the whole reason i DONT have an upgraded exhaust right now. Plus the stock dual exhaust looks fairly nice.

Why don't you want to buy "made in china"? I guess you won't be buying much anymore if you live by that. The "made in USA" stuff is made in a factory just like the chinese stuff is.

If the exhaust has a silencer on it, you defeat the entire purpose of getting a performance upgrade from the exhaust.

Well it sounds like i just cant win here. Whats the solution? Buy its anyway and get a name brand exhaust? WHAT exactly is IN the exhaust that makes it less loud than the ebay one?

I just think that the resonator is not functional and the muffler is a straight-thru design if i remember correctly.

o aite, was there a spot for the O2 sensor in that exhaust? Because i dont remember seeing a spot for it. I need to replace my O2 sensor b/c my mpg is in the 13s.... HORRIBLE. Unless im burning Oil?! But i dont think i am.

The rear O2 sensor is used only to check the CAT functionality. The one that the ecu uses to keep the A/F (thus making the MPG correct) is the front one placed on the O2 housing (the name says it all haha)

Sweet. So hows the ebay turbo goin? I told my friend about it, and he rags on it. I think its because he spent $700 on a 57" trim for his Honda Del Sol.

&& im still lookin into the ebay turbo IF IT last. Because if it doesnt... might as well put that money towards a genuine turbo

yeah im also wondering if ebay turbo's are reliable. Im planning to fp green or the new fp20g but i honestly cant afford $1,000++ turbo right now.

So i was dead set on an FP18g internally gated turbo until i read this thread. Since reading this thread, i checked out ebay and found what is called a Super TD06 20g turbo at around $450 shipped! it's being sold/made by a company called GODSPEED. ive never heard of that brand before.

Im so tempted to get that 20g on ebay but i also dont want to waste $450 bucks if it proves to break after a couple of miles!

My buddy is running an ebay 16g at 20psi. After about 2 months it was floppy as hell. He still runs it, but it burns oil and has lots of shaft play.

oh you are right, that one actually looks like a 20g. There were some other auctions that said 20g yet showed the 16g pictures, probably just a mistake in the pictures.

Don't think there are too many reviews about these ebay 20gs showingup, perhaps you can be the first.

i emailed the vendors yesterday and shoot them another email today and still no response. basically im just concerned about if the turbo blows or what not, can they fix it even if i pay?

otherwise, do you guys know any turbo servicing company that rebuilds turbo even if the turbo wasnt bought from them?

Im not sure if GODSPEED uses the same Chinese turbo parts and crap labor, but i do have one of their intercoolers and it is pretty damn good quality. I know that an intercooler is not anywhere near as complex as a turbo, but just throwing my $0.02 out there.

I would like to see the exhaust side of that turbo, the pics only show the compressor side.
That exhaust turbine housing seems like it has the shape if a Nissan turbo or something like that with some modifications mede to it.

Man, that turbo looks LEGIT. I mean technically they CANT sell you a "lemon" turbo right? If you prep it right, and break it in slow... it should just do fine correct?

Because i personally want to try the Evo3 16g ebay turbo and just run like 16 psi WHEN i race. 8 psi daily is just fine for me.

They do offer 30 day warranties i think, so in reality you could just "RAPE" the turbo and if it doesnt break within the 30 days... then its good right?

well it says there "90 days LIMITED warranty". again, ive emailed them asking about warranties and rebuilding services (even if i have to pay) and still no reply. i guess they dont want my business?

i even went to their website (but their prices there are different! dont know why) GodSpeed Project - Intercooler, Turbo Kits, Turbo Manifold, Body Kit and emailed them through "contact us" AND STILL NO REPLY. i highly doubt that they are as busy as slowboy/fp/extremepsi/etc. to not respond to sales inquiries. if they do finally reply within the YEAR, i'll update this thread hahaha
