Nice im in the process of primer blocking and sanding but it wasn't too bad so not much blocking to do, should have color next month.

Man that color is amazing! Wish I had a brother that did paint and body work LOL.

Engine coming out perhaps? :)

Na, not yet.

I might have missed it earlier in the thread, but what compressor and gun did you guys use? Awesome looking paint!

Sata Jet 3000 and 4000. He has about half a dozen spray guns with different tips, for different types of paint, primer, clears. The compressor is an old Craftsman that stands about 6 feet tall.

Finally got the new front bumper on. Had my boy Tony cut and buff it as well.

what color did you use to paint your trim? any prep work or tips with that?

Its just duplicolor trim paint available at any auto parts store. I used a razor blade, wire wheel and a flap type sanding drum from our local OSH store. Lots of time and patience removing the old rotted plastic coating.

I then used some wax and grease remover and did thin coats (3-4) while the trim sat on cardboard. So far so good and they have seen many hand washes and a few 150mph passes :D

I removed the back glass like you. was fairly easy with a heat gun. as far as the rear hatch did you pop that trim off also? And what about the front wind shield upper trim on the top? did you take that out or just taped around the rubber strip? Sorry for all the questions but I'm currently doing the something as you did. Very nice Ted. One of these days I'll get the 1g track car painted.[DOUBLEPOST=1405621429,1405619585][/DOUBLEPOST]I want to see photos of the car with the spokes on it. I also saw shots that looked like a 1960 Impala, a 66, and a 1959 Impala test car. :) Lots of old cars. Brings back memories of living in the Bay Area (back when I owned a '61 bubble top).

Really nice job man making me rethink having the car being done think im going to do some more body work, for next years shootout.

All the trim came off everything, even the front window upper strip. It was all a complete pain in the butt to put back on, but well worth it in the end.

Looks even better in person #bassboat
Glad you can appreciate it pimp!

Chris, I think I mentioned somewhere I am the blacksheep of the family being into speed. Both of my brothers are into lowriders. They've had hoppers, dancers, cruisers, etc. The 66 just got sold about 2 months ago for 7k...extremely cheap. But my oldest brother (the painter/body man), wants to put the money into our fathers 62 SS. The 60 is actually a Biscayne and belongs to my middle brother. Its very rough, but runs and drives well for its age. Then there is the 64 SS convertible that my oldest brother owns. The quarter panels were all rotted out and there wasn't much of it that was reused. But mechanically it was all there. 4 speed Muncie I believe, 327 twin fire, posi rear end, convertible. Right now it sits primer'd and ready for paint.

Really nice job man making me rethink having the car being done think im going to do some more body work, for next years shootout.

:hellyeah:

Here's a small update. Enjoy... ;)

Redid a shaved corner piece because the antenna hole work was starting to sag (There's that 64 drop top)

My brother was not available due to having another high paying project taking his time, so a good friend experienced in the field donated 2 days of his time. He went over it lightly and got rid of all the surface dirt and this is the last polish the car saw. There is still TONS of material left for a second wetsand and buff, which will be done here soon.

My brother showed up to check up on my buddy Tony. I trust Tony 110% but my brother was concerned since he hasnt seen what Tony can do. In the end Tony earned his confidence from my brother, but I dont blame him for being worried. One screw up on the detailing and out the window goes all our hard work.

After two long days of work, Tony did a great job on the detailing. I cannot thank him enough for his hard work. On top of that, the hard work that my brother Angel did. Did I mention this was all done out of the garage? Show quality work out of a garage? Never heard of it.....

Then comes the fun part. My buddy Robert De Luna who has taken many pictures of my car volunteered for the photo shoot.

Being the ballsy mofo that I am, I decided to drive the car out to the shoot loction, 20 minutes away. On top of that, we got stuck in traffic for 45 minutes on the way back.

Here is a link to the photoshoot that day.

Since the paint job, the car has made it into GearBox Magazine and the full story is in this issue.

On top of the coverage from GearBox magazine, my understanding of body work and paint has grown. Not only that, but the appreciation for color care has elevated.

There are many draw backs to a paint job of this caliber. Working on the car has become a HUGE challenge. I can't toss tools around or lean on the car like I used to. Even with all my built in padding, I still run the risk of putting a slight dent or wave in the sheet metal. Not many people understand this, so think twice next time you lean on your car or someone elses.

Thanks man. I never got along with my brother until now. Seems that all we needed was to work on a project together so we could understand each other like friends, instead of family (oldest brother and youngest brother).
