fuel pump question

so last week after just getting my 91 talon FWD turbo running for the first time in a year my stock fuel pump finally died. my friend gave me a walbro 255 external pump and fast FPR for free. so question at hand can i and if so how do i just install a external pump? i already know i need to buy the FPR kit but what other parts do i need?

I would sell it and buy an internal pump. You will spend more money trying to set that one up. To do it properly you will need to run -6 or -8 line from the tank to the fuel filter. You will have to buy the correct 10x1.0 fittings to attach to the pump in -6 or -8 depending on what line you run. You will also have to build a pickup inside the tank that includes a fuel sock. Honestly i would just pick up a walbro 190 in tank pump and install that. You won't need an aftermarket regulator with the 190lph pump.

Pick up a 190lph walbro or a Evo 8/9/10 pump for cheap especially if you dont have immediate plans for power out of the aforementioned pumps fueling limits. Its alot less of a hassle than trying to find all the right fittings needed to install that fuel pump and regulator (and will likley cost 2x the ammount of a pump that fits in the stock location), the pumps just swap in.

well the lines wouldn't be a problem for me its the intank pick up that would be the only issue. would it be possible to pull the old pump out and splice a line in were the pump is to the stock pick up and then run the pump under the car? the pump is set up for rubber fuel lines so i can pretty much splice it in where ever i need to (was setup for a 60's truck). just trying to think of a way to get the car back on the road in the shortest time without dropping another $100 plus bucks on an another fuel pump before gettting money for this free one

You aren't really going to be able to adapt the stock style pickup to a fuel hose being that it attached to the pump and not a fuel line. You will have to run some sort of aftermarket pickup. You also won't want to just splice that pump into the factory hard line with rubber hose without properly putting a bead on the lines. If you want to do it than go ahead, it would just be a lot easier, cheaper, more reliable, safer and less time consuming to just drop a walbro 190 directly in the tank. You also will want to verify that the pump is a fuel injection pump. Being that it was on a 60's truck that was likely carburated it is likely a low pressure pump.

With the 190 no need for a afpr 255 i used one waste of money for me but got another dsm so 190 it is.
