I have a 92 GSX. I just recently bought and installed new 93 dual piston calipers and deleted the abs because the hydraulic unit was leaking. I took it for a test drive and after driving around the neighborhood for a bit noticed that the front brakes were braking without touching the pedal. If I let it coast down a hill it would come to a stop on the hill. I pulled over and they were smoking and the wheels were hot. I jacked it up and loosened the bleeder to free it then drove home. I checked the lines and they seemed ok. Pulled the passenger side caliper and it seemed fine. Went to torque the bolts back down and noticed the guide pin bolt would spin once it was seated. It tighten to a point and then just wouldn't tighten anymore. Could this cause the caliper to stick? Didnt have time to check the driver side. Thanks.

I'm sure it has something to do with the problem. It sounds like the slides are hanging up once you hit the brake and not letting the pad off the rotor. If your slide bolts are stripped this is very dangerous and at any time they could back out or even snap from all the force from the break. To fix you will need new caliper hangers/saddles, I would check the other side asap and stop driving just so you don't mess anything up even more.

Well I checked out the drivers side brake. All was well on that side. I think the main cause of the brakes dragging was that the brake pedal wasn't correctly attached to the bolt that comes through the firewall. The bolt was kinda justpushing against threaded hole and not threaded into it there by keeping pressure on the brakes. I adjusted it and now just waiting for the hardware for the passenger side brake to arrive. Will reply when I get everything back together.

It could be an overadjusted brake pedal rod. If your brake pedal is preloading the master cylinder it could be closing off the compensation port and when the brakes heat up and fluid expands it causes the brakes to drag.

Sounds like its time for new front brake calipers. Wouldn't hurt to flush all the old brake fluid out and replace with new. Clean and lube all contact areas for slide pins and brake pad hardware.

Got the new guide pin bolt installed and test drove the car. No dragging, overheating or smoking of the brakes. The incorrectly adjusted pedal I believe was the main culprit and the bad guide pin just made it worse.
