Before I started my engine rebuild the car would have trouble shifting to first and reverse on startup, it would only shift into 1st when slowing down at a red at when I get to 10 mph or less it was slide right In but if I stopped it would just grind gears going to 1st. Another thing is after driving for a while like half an hour it would have trouble coming out of any gears or going into them. I had to push almost as hard as I could to shift out and shifting back in was worse. Could it be the slave cylinder? I just bought a new one but wont know until the car is up and running in a couple weeks.

If your master and slave cylinders are operating correctly, you are going to need new synchros and possible hub/sleeve assemblies.

Have someone hold the clutch in and observe the clutch fork travel. If it is moving 3/4" or more, that should be enough to disengage the clutch. If not bleed the system and check again.
