fresh rebuild clunking sound?? tsi awd

1990 tsi awd

just rebuilt the engine when i went to start it and i hear a clunking sound?? its a dull clunking sound? anyways i noticed my drive line was slipping back off my transfer case when putting it in so i crawled under the car and pulled forward on the drive line and had a buddy turn the car over to see if that did anything and it did not i still noticed the sound but i could feel the clunk when i had a hold of the drive line??? i listened around and think it could be coming from the t-case but cant tell for sure


im building this for a friend and hes coming to help in the morning would really like to give him some good news this thing has been a money pit and nothing but a head ache
oh one more thing after putting the engine and trans in we realized the trans he put in would not work and when swapping in his original one the output shaft got bound on the flywheel for a minute??

anyone know what i should check?
fluids?
maybe a bent output shaft??

the video did not work all you could hear is my engine turning over........any one else have advice i have built 5 dsm's and never have i had this clunking??
could it be rods?? everything was machined and all new parts all bearings were in spec and the engine turned like butter im sure its not plus i can feel the clunk when holding the drive line and the t-case so im confused and really could use advice on what to do im going to go try changing my t-case fluids and than ill be back on here
