my biggest issue with being short on power is all the vettes zoom by me on the straightaways and they get in the way and wont let you pass them thru the technical part of the track.

Vettes running in HPDE2 are basically stockers on street tires, and therefore nothing to worry about. I drove a buddy's stock Z06 and was really disappointed in the performance.

Also, these guys probably have only one track day under their belt, so they don't know what they are doing out there. You should be able to eat them up in the corners.

Finally, they won't risk their shiny Corvette by pushing you. I don't think you'll have a problem. They become a nuisance later on, of course. But then you will be ready for them.

+1 to SOP and StealthTT for solid and sound advice. Good to know we have solid mentors to help fill Greg's shoes. I just wish the other hundreds of 'I want to go racing' posts on this forum would find their way in here.

Thanks.

Things are looking up in the Midwest for DSMs.

Dave Lafavor is now running in a race class, Rusher Racing will be running events, Elvenhome is coming to Autobahn, BlackCar will make it to Road America, and a newbie (Eric) will be getting his first taste at Find the Line. Brent, my fabricator, is building a car for next year. We could have five cars at Road America in August, and a half dozen on the track next year! DSMs, in the Midwest at least, could become one of the favorite track cars, right up there with M3s and Corvettes.

I'll be selling my car at the end of the season, just as it's getting interesting for DSMs. Maybe somebody in the Midwest will buy it so I can see it run with a better driver.

Ludachris,
Where on earth did you get those Team Dynamics wheels (17x9 27mm offset)?
I found a few vendors that have that brand but nobody seems to have that particular size combination available.

Yes, as Steve mentioned, they're from Mitch at Engintecs - he worked with TD to get these wheels made in that size and offset for us DSMers.

My thanks to the lot of you,
I thought I'd lost my mind when I couldn't find that size on the web.
Quasi-custom wheels, eh? I hope that doesn't make 'em TOO rich.
Anyway, I'll pester Mitch myself to get the scoop on prices and such.

Thanks again.

For what it's worth, I normally run a set of 17x9 Cobra SVT replica wheels ($100 each) with 245/17 Hoosiers.

For Autobahn this weekend, we are running a set of CCW 17x10 wheels with 275/17 Kumhos.

They barely fit on the front, just missing the bottom of the fender corners at full lock. In the rear, we had to use 10mm spacers to clear the lower arm. My car is lowered to the max, and we are worrying about fender clearance in the rear. If the tire hits, we can raise the car a half-inch or so with the adjustable Ground Control suspension.

Ooooweee! I likes the price.
Would these do the job? They look the part.
I'm wondering mostly about offset, bolt pattern (4.5" is 114.3mm I think), hubcentric size and big brake clearance.

Those are the same wheels I have, but since I went with 275's on my fwd I had to cut fender to clear them. With some front and rear camber you should be fine on an awd.

Check www.americanmuscle.com as you can get them without mustang looking center caps and they have free shipping right now for about the same price as that place before shipping.

Photos please!!!!

We had to raise the rear by about an inch, because the fender was cutting into the Kumhos. Now, the car sits level, with about the same fender clearance front and rear. I'll have to see if we have any photos.
