I'm finally ready to put my head on, time it and install. I'm kinda nervous because of all the new parts I've installed. I'll start by listing everything new. 2.3 stroker bored .040 over, eagle crank, wiseco 9 to 1 pistons, eagle h beam rods. Everything balanced, bs eliminator kit, all new pumps, bearings, gaskets, seals, perma torque hg, Magnus stage 3 head, gsc s2 cams, fidanza cam gears, fluid amp harmonic damper, Magnus smim, ecm link v3 lite, tre stage 3 tranny, punishment o2 and dp and innovate oil temp/psi gauge.
I'm just seeking any advice on the head install and or per start check list. For example copper spray hg? Anything I should check with link? Crank without spark first? Any input to make this easier would be much appreciated guys.

I have always cranked without fuel. Build a little oil pressure, and listen to it to make sure everything sounds okay before starting it up with its own power. I do it three times for about 30 seconds, Gets oil through the motors lifters, the turbo etc. I am curious about link too though, I just got it so I don't know how it is on a new motor and not being able to tune it till after break in.

To mate the head gasket w/ your block. Just make sure everything is clean. Pretty basic process. I used brake clean and a towel to clean the surface of the block.

I wouldn't use, or haven't seen anyone use copper spray with your HG, and you have a good one, so I wouldn't worry about using that.

You don't need to copper spray the HG if you don't want to. I never have and haven't had any issues. Some people do and they don't have any problems either.

I would crank the car for 30 seconds with the fuel fuse pulled to get oil circulating around (specially for the turbo). Just double check all your sensors, bolts etc...

Awesome. Thanks guys. I packed the oil pump with Vaseline so hopefully it'll prime quick. Glad I asked about priming I was gonna do spark. I was thinking removing spark plugs so there wouldn't be as much compression and pressure on rod bearings.

If you take the spark out and just let the fuel run it can wash down past your rings since they aren't seated yet.

If the timing belt isn't on yet, install the head, all oil lines, filter, and oil, and crank the oil pump with a drill. Just did this last weekend. Worked great.
Make sure you have your cams set and crank set also. I have the plastic cam gear tool to hold my cams in time.

So I plan on putting the motor and tranny in together. Anyone know if it's doable with the smim and exhaust manifold already on?

Prob going to be tight. No prob with the trans, just make sure the SMIM doesn't have any hose barbs sticking out of the backside. The radiator should be out to make more room.

That's what I was thinking. I'll just leave the exhaust manifold off. I would rather have to hook that up in the engine bay. So my plan is to install everything, set up my wb for the front o2, calibrate it, do a BLT, pull fuel fuse, crank a few times, say a prayer and then hopefully start her up. Run for a little while, recheck timing, drive a few miles then change the oil. Am I missing anything?

I'd pull the plugs for initial cranking to make sure oil is circulating. You can see oil flowing if you open the oil fill cap and look at the squirter hole on the rocker arm. Also unplug the clutch switch so you can crank it without pushing the clutch pedal down.

For you: just disconnect the cas and cps, pull the plugs and crank her over a while. Thats what ive done before. Stops fuel and spark and less force on the rod bearings while oil gets to it.

OK guys we have a problem. Today I got my head back finally and when I opened it up it was missing lifters, rocker arms and that cap on the end. I'm guessing like a oil passage plate? I'm not sure what it is. I called Magnus and they said they can send me stock ones Monday. I read an article on changing them with cams still in. Think I should install cams, cam gears, time it and wait? Wait to do it all at once? Or should I just upgrade them? My biggest thing is I'm on vacation right now so I have more time to get stuff done.
