Planning on doing some performance mods for my 92 talon TSI AWD (4g63). I currently have an EVO 3 16 g turbo set at 14 psi with a mbc running an HKS BOV, ported o2 housing and ported manifold, 2 and 3/4 inch exhaust with downpipe, different ECU, and manual 450 cc injectors; also a boost gauge set up. In the near future i would like to get a FMIC, 650 cc injectors with a Walbro 195cc or 255 cc fuel pump, also a chipped ECU. Then later on get it tuned with 17-20 psi. Does this sound good for my car ( stock internals and transmission ) or no? thanks for the advice i appreciate it! :hmm:

Well an FMIC adds more volume to the charge piping, so that would likely make for a small decrease in response, which in my opinion is far outweighed by the benefits.

As far as cutting down on spool, a smaller turbine housing, larger exhaust and dumped wastegate would help. In terms of a tune, a lower-compression less thermally efficient motor will have more waste heat to work on the turbine. You could also wrap the manifold and use a turbo blanket. You could tune for more torque out of boost, or run rich with retarded timing to help spool. There are a couple schools of thought in terms of tuning to reduce lag.

Anti-lag, 2-step and nitrous can be employed for a large frame turbo like my HX52.

Not any single one of these will "fix" lag, and it all depends on your setup.

Really I wouldn't worry too much about lag if you are looking at turbos of that size however.

On a larger compressor with an appropriately matched turbine wheel and housing you will be making more power per psi anyways.

Figure out what sort of power band you want before looking for a turbo and trying to make it do what you want.

I run my evo8 16g at 18psi on evo8 560's and a evo9 fuel pump. Pulls hard and gets around 21-24mpg depending on weight of my foot per drive LOL
