I did a boost leak test recently and I found a very good sized leak probably on the TB shaft seals. So, I'm just going to replace them and while the TB is off, I was deciding whether I should block off the FIAV and blocking off both the FIAV and ISC. I know that some people have had trouble with cold starts on cold days but the weather here doesn't go below 50 F so, I'm not too worried about that. Also, the vfaq for removal/bypass of the FIAV isn't working, so I have yet to read an write-up/article on this subject. I do know that you can JB weld one of the ports or buy a blockoff plates and re-route the coolant lines to bypass the throttle body. Thanks in advance for the replies.

What i fI just unplugged the coolant lines, but left the bottom of the throtle body untouched and my rpm's go up to 2000 when I put my car in park, and it sometimes idle surges? What would be the next step I should take?

FIAV= fast idle air valve. As coolant temperature increases, the valve closes. It allows extra air around the throttle body at cold starts, hence "fast idle" air valve. Without coolant flowing through it, it might not close at all in a wisconson winter leaving you with a high idle. This might eventually trash your ISC as it will allways be trying to bring down the idle.

I cant find the link anymore but were can I buy a Fiav and ISC block off plates?

thanks in advance.

Thanks for the link wiseman! I just ordered a FIAV block off plate with the vents to still run ISC. It is my understanding that the ISC can't simply be removed with a couple of block off plates. I could be wrong. I was told that I would have to step up to DSMLink etc to be able eliminate the ISC without running into problems.:talon:

i just put mine in the one to retain the isc and didnt see any wax stuff that i read was in there any thoughts

Now I do have Link and the only thing that I would have to do is have link simulate ISC right?

I just installed my FIAV blockoff plate along with the EGR block off plate and i have no regrets. I ordered them from level zero motorsports. Only difference i see is idles way better but takes alot longer to warm up.

I allready have an egr block off.

My car only takes like 5 mins to get to 180ish. so im not worried about it. the car wont be in the snow this winter other than once to make Krispy Kremes. :)

I think I am going to make it tomarrow!

I have to change a radiator in the fiances honda then thats next on the list. 1/8 steel But I need to get bolts. I got to find the size and thread pitch.

sry to bring up a dead thread but just wondering exactly what to do with the coolant lines. i dont understand what u guys did with them is it just take the two lines and loop them together? pics would be great to clear up my confusion. p.s. i plane on keeping the isc if that matters.

thanks for the help:thumb:

Yeah looking them together works. Remove one hose and use the other one to loop it together.

I made one it took about 20 mins. I also have a write up on here also.

kool thanks for the help.. i think im gona do this and hope it solves my high random idle but im going to check the iac system first (just got a sensor but still have weird idle) so im gona check the harness and all that just to make sure probably will do this mod just to lower intake temps anyway.

Did you loosen the throttle cable first? What does you TPS read at closed throttle? Better check those first. Have you read Terry's idle surge faq? Terry's Talon Troubleshooting Tips #3 - Fast Idle (aka. Idle Surge)
