I did a boost leak test recently and I found a very good sized leak probably on the TB shaft seals. So, I'm just going to replace them and while the TB is off, I was deciding whether I should block off the FIAV and blocking off both the FIAV and ISC. I know that some people have had trouble with cold starts on cold days but the weather here doesn't go below 50 F so, I'm not too worried about that. Also, the vfaq for removal/bypass of the FIAV isn't working, so I have yet to read an write-up/article on this subject. I do know that you can JB weld one of the ports or buy a blockoff plates and re-route the coolant lines to bypass the throttle body. Thanks in advance for the replies.

If you get the FIAV/ISC blockoff, you don't need to run the lower portion of the TB. As for the FIAV only block off, I just let the coolant lines from the TB unplugged. I looped the water lines from the thermo/pipe to feed the water into my turbo. btw, it's nice out, that means you should be outside working on your car :p

I could see going for this. Looking forward to updates.:thumb:

Installed my new EGR blockoff plate (always had the EGR disconnected, but put the plate on to tidy everything up) and I installed my JMF FIAV bypass plate. I bought two FIAV gaskets from the dealer for each side of the bypass plate. I took off the shorter FIAV coolant line and looped the longer one to where the shorter one was. After putting everythign back and doing a lot of driving today, the car idles PERFECT and the throttle body is cool to the touch even after heating up the motor with pulls. I strongly recommend this mod. There is no way this doesn't lower intake temps. This combined with the Mangus intake manifold heat spacer seems like a good combination to me. :thumb: :thumb:

I have mine bypassed up here in Michigan, and I dont need to really keep my foot on the gas on very cold days, there's hardly any fluctuation. I just let it idle for 30 seconds and it's fine.

I started a thread about this like two weeks ago. I did the FIAV bypass plate and I have a better idle than ever. I don't see a point in doing the blockoff, but if you do the bypass plate you can take the coolant lines off while keeping the idle motor...

Bumping this thread for good info!

Going to place an order today since I am in process of rebuilding a throttle body. Debating on whether or not I should keep my ISC...hrm

I also did not see a tech article written on this yet so maybe I will do that as well.

I saw no reason to get rid of the ISC... it doesn't hurt anything at all and it keeps a good idle...
That's what I figured thanks for the input. Not sure if this would help at all but I do have DSMLink so I can simulate idle.

Ah, just saw that you have DSMLink, that's good for controlling idle.
You've probably read thru the thread and noticed that the FIAV block-off is probably not a good idea if you live in cold climates.
Good luck and post up your results...

I didn't have DSMLink when I did this mod... but this only affects you on a cold start. After the car warms up it will work fine. It's not that big of a deal for me at least.

I live in PA so it's not cold year around.

Maybe you guys have just changed my mind and I will do the complete block off and just simulate my idle through DSMLink. Will most definitely post up results once I get my car running properly. Between new TB seals and this I am hoping to resolve my leaks.

How well did this0 work for a 2G throttle body? Or did it work at all? I am looking to eliminate the coolant lines and ISC from my 2G throttle body. What else would I have to do to do this other than the FIAV block off plate?:talon:

Great info on this thread.

So let me sum it up.

FIAV bypass plate helps with idle and TB leaks. The addition of a cooler TB is a bonus because it reduces intake temps.

Sound right?

I think I'll try this mod.

Thanks all,

Tom

The reason I was asking was because it seems most of the members on here are doing this seem to have there motors built or semi-built so I wasn't sure if this was something you would do to a stock or mostly-stock car/motor. Thanks for this great info and any more that makes it on this thread.

:dsm:

My motor is all stock. I have bolt-ons. It really doesn't have anything to do with mods. It just makes the car run better and makes the intake temps cooler...

Thank you, thank you sir. For the most part here in Louisiana it stays pretty warm but our weather is weird and we can have some pretty cold winters. 30-20 F sometimes. Every 7 or so years we'll get a light snow fall. I'm still debating on to do this, since when it does get cold I like to rush out to the car and hurry and turn it on and turn up the heat and rush back inside.

BTW I'm sure some of you are laughing because even 40*F is cold for us down here. LOL

:dsm:

Haha, 40 isn't bad. You really shouldn't have a problem. It might idle weird in the very beginning in the cold, but as soon as the car warms up it will be fine. You would have more issues if you deleted the FIAV and the ISC...

Definitively going to do the FIAV blockoff plate but I also want to get rid of the ISC. Mine is going bad. I have already replaced it once. I don't want to replace ti again.:talon: How to do it without throwing a code?

My FIAV and ISC are both long gone. I use Link to simulate idle on a cold start, and to clear and ignore any related codes. And I adjusted the BISS to achieve a good idle at operating temperature.
