I finally pulled my transmission out of the crate I built to send to jacks. The transmission looks great!!! Hopefully it shifts and holds power as well as it looks. Time will only tell. I figured I’d make this post because no one ever does so when they are happy, only when they are mad.

Got a new competition clutch fork and new release boot so she should be looking brand new after getting my spare mounting brackets power coated soon.

They arranged shipping for me to and from PA to them. Things that are not standard that opted in for are the following; deburring and micro polishing the gear set, a 4 spider differential and a new reverse switch.

They also informed me that the output shaft was at 50% life and sourced a good oem one for me because I didn’t go 300m as I didn’t have the funds to upgrade the transfer case too at the time. My wife isn’t impressed already. Lol

It was about $1,000 more than what you could do for the cheapest way they offered about. My invoice is attached in a photo so about $2,500 would be the cheapest I think they would offer.

This would be better put as a part of your car's "build" thread, as forum posts are generally for questions and topic discussions not vehicle updates.
That being said, it does give a glimpse into the costs. As a Canadian, we're even more f*kd for getting work like this done.
:(

The point is this was just express a happy customer not as much as my build update. You see threads on here bashing vendors and transmission builders. I just wanted to do the opposite. I also don’t have a build thread or even a profile made yet. Give me time.

I also see people making forum posts saying things like wasssup or sup y’all so atleast this is dsm related.

What all did that price include? Someone had/has a "stage 3" Jacks Transmission for sale for a 90 model year and I'm curious because no details could be found. I'm not sure if my trans has a 4 spider or not, but I 100% want one if it doesn't. No idea how to tell either.

Here is another picture of my invoice.

They only offer one build package anymore because of parts being scarce I believe. I opted for the gear polishing, 4 spider diff and my output shaft was bad. The transmission came from a car I bought for parts and honestly I never ran it so idk if I would have noticed issues or not but I took their word.

On the price picture the $27.22,$575, and $300 were optional upgrades I opted for. And on the bottom the $63.52 and $150 were things they suggested to me through email after inspection. Well in reality the $1,850 was the base line. Everything I opted for and 2 of the charges were for inbound and out bound shipping.

They had good communication and they answered the phone and answered all of my questions about running redline mt-90 fluid which is my fluid of choice personally.

I've currently got a trans getting looked at by TRE. Jon told me he doesn't necessarily like billing to Canadians because a lot of us seem to want to skirt the tax man on re-entry and he doesn't want to get caught in the crossfire by someone lying to customs. If you can manage to take the transmission across the border yourself and do all the inbound/outbound shipping within the US, I'd say he's much more likely to take the job on, especially if you email him first and then call to explain your plans to him. Not sure if the other builders are as care as much about that aspect, but once I've got my transmission back, I'll be updating my build thread with an invoice too.

Yeah looking at it from a different point of view, I see where you're coming from.
On the build thread conversation side, people can subscribe to your progress and be notified when you post updates.
No worries, did not mean to "come down on you". It's not a misuse.

Well after being an unreliable DSM owner I can say that the car has started and moved under its own power. It has only went in 1st and moved about 20 yds and reversed back into the garage.

Only thing IDK about is the front hops a little when the clutch is being disengaged sorta like I have an unsprung clutch disc. Thing is I have a sprung Competition. I’m curious if this is a result of the 4 spider or not. I have no experience with transmission “building” and not sure if this to be expected or not.

I want to take the injectors out and clean them before doing much more than what I have just to be on the safe side. I’ll update more later on.

Other then that I am hopeful and ready to see how it performs on the road.

Nothing should skip. Elaborate please. Furthermore you stated the trans came from a parts car. Have you verified all gear ratios? 2ga and 2gb are very different final drive

A 4 spider would act like a complete stock diff. You might want to verify the t-case and trans are a matching ratio(2ga/2gb), otherwise it will destroy the viscous.

It came from a 99’ and my car is a 99’. Jacks also confirmed that it is the late 2gb ratio when I sent it to them. It is my original t case not the one that came with the trans either.

I did use a different front passenger side axle bc the original the cv boot a small tear. I’m also going jack up the front and re verify everything is tight and I didn’t miss and anything when I put the trans in as a triple check too.

As far as the front it is kinda like a hop. TBH I just let the clutch out slow with no throttle seeing what would happen. Like I stated it felt like a unsprung clutch to me or similar to a heavy twin in diesel. Just grabbier than I remembered and I didn’t know if that was side effect when I was turning and moving slow if that makes sense.

I just wasn’t sure if it was to be expected or not. Also too it is the first time I’ve used my clutch in about 2 years. I need to go for a cruise after I clean my injectors and update the thread really.

But if @jdxnc says it should feel like the stock trans would I believe him and will keep that in mind when I get some miles in it.

No not much just what I said above. Jason pretty said what I was curious about. Wasn’t sure it would feel different when going slow and turning which was all I did.

Yes only thing that changed was the fuel system, the trans, clutch fork, and passenger side axle. Other than it’s the same setup that drove into the garage about 2 years ago.

No balance shafts and 272s with full 3” she’ll never feel like stock again 😂 but the trans part I do appreciate the input. Part of me feels I just haven’t been in the seat in a while too

-Daniel

Took the car on about a 15 mile cruise this morning. Transmission shifts very smoothly. Haven’t shifted past 5k for now. I’m low on 2 year old fuel. I’d like to get some fresh 93 and burn some before beating on it too bad.

Still have a hop in the front when taking off from a stop if I don’t slip the clutch hard. I don’t think this is trans related and probably driver related. DDing a twin disc g56 is way different and I haven’t drove it much at all recently.

Thanks for the input hopefully she keeps holding up on the future.

Twin disks are "particular" but I have gotten better at DDing mine. They are touchy and mine just plain likes more revs to get going. I'm running a Jacks Stage 2 setup myself, only a 1g trans.
