2G Transmission Rebuild Kit

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

although Ebay may have some good parts for sale, I honestly would not trust ebay internals for my engine and tranny. Get the parts u need from Jackstransmission.com

Well, they have 12 month warranty and they say all bearings are KOYO and the gaskets and seals are National brand. Are those good brands???

I know I shouldn't trust on ebay for my internals. But I thought this might be an option for those who can afford paying $800 for a rebuild kit.

jacks transmissions can rebuild a cluster for as low as 499.99? all you have to do is send in yours. I think thats better than ebay and $800 for unknown parts. You can do an evo III conversion for $519.00.

Um, maybe I'm getting old but I don't remember a rubber gasket going anywhere on the tranny, not that particular one anyways. For $350, they give you a bunch of bearings and some oil seals, screw that.

Problem with rebuild kits is where do you draw the line. Replace bearings only, replace synchro's only, replace bearings and synchros, replace all that plus input shaft, all that plus 3rd gear. It goes on and on. If I'm going back into the tranny, the entire gear stack is getting swapped out with a fresh one. I'd reuse the differentials, cases, etc. Thats me though, since I break tranny's all the time it isn't worth going into one without a full gear stack replacement.

I agree, just send yours in and be done with it. The novelty of rebuilding a tranny wears off fast, and they have the equipment to inspect gears for cracks or pitting before you put it back in and waste a rebuild due to a potentially damaged part. I'm a DYI type of guy, but the cost savings isn't that much.

Yes, I understand what you are saying the problem with that is that I live in Costa Rica, so sending my tranny is not an option, it would cost so much that is not worth it. So I need to buy a rebuild kit and do it myself.

Then get a real oem and complete kit from Jacks: Jacks Transmissions LLC — AWD Rebuild Kits.

You will hate yourself later if you get that one on eBay as it is only the bearings and seals. For a rebuild you also at least need the oem syncros and shift forks as well minimum. Otherwise you will afterward be rebuilding your rebuild I guarantee it.

You will also need a press, the 95-96ECB manual here: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/fre...download-2g-service-manual.html#post151989574,
and this rebuild article: http://www.twingles.com/ideck/rebuild3/dretranny.htm as well as time and determination.

If all this is still too much $ then just get a junked DSM for the tranny (and hope it doesn't need a rebuild).

Good luck.

A press definitely, 12 ton if possible and at least able to accept about a 12"-18" long shaft. You need gear pullers, gear splitters, drift punches, snap ring pliers, seal pullers at the least. I also used 2 cheap folding tables covered in clean cardboard, one for teardown only, one for rebuild and keeping it immaculate clean.

Wow, thats a lot of info...jajaja.. thanks guys, I will definitively will go with a jacktransmission rebuild kit, probably a "Kit B Economy". I'll let you all know how it went. And I'll probably ask a lot more questions later.

what the hell?? why the "jajaja". . i know ## laughing. . but "jaja". . and if ## going to rebuild ## tranny.what clutch are u going to get?

I know this is an an old post but 12 month warranty and they say all bearings are KOYO and the gaskets and seals are National brand . I got this t366r kit for $185.22 fast shipping im gonna test it out on my 159k gst tranny :dsm:
