Okay, so a few of you know that I just bought a '95 TSi a few days ago. I have been having a fuel issue with it and am in the process of getting it fixed.

This is the question I have now.

When I bought the car from the guy he told me that he had it tuned specifically to do the following...

first gear run: 8 PSI

second gear run: 16 PSI

third gear run: ~18 PSI.

Well, here is the funny part. The car has NO boost controller. None. In first you can hear but don't really feel the turbo spool up. But as soon as I hit second its like a new animal. Just friggin GOES!

I have had a fuel issue so I can't drive the car right now.

But also, he has his boost reference lines set up very odd.

FROM the BOV to a 3 way. One from the BOV, one to the IM and then one to the WG?

I have never seen that before. Very odd to me.

I have heard that the car was set up to have a "delayed" vacuum set up. I wouldn't know for sure if that has anything to do with this.

I know its weird though. And the car does have a S-AFC if that makes a difference. e

That 3 way means he's pulling his boost source for the wastegate off of manifold pressure instead of tapping into your j-pipe(which is what you want). There's no way if it's like that, that it's setup in any way for boost to be added through gears. That sounds very screwy to me, I've also never heard of a delayed vaccuum setup. Do you have an aftermarket boost gauge??

edit: With no fuel mods you couldn't run 16 or 18psi on a big 16g, most I ever got was 12 without adding injectors and fuel pump...

I have EVO 560cc injectors so he said. And the fuel pump is a 255.

Yeah I thought I wanted it off off the J pipe. I'll be fixing that. And yes, there is an aftermarket boost gauge.

dude this guy sounds like a ricer that BSd the hell out of you! I've never heard of asigning PSI to gears and Im sure its impossible! look for a boost controller or even an aftermarket boost gauge. if there is NONE than he totally BSd you and you can't believe anyting he said.

take pictures of your engine bay and from in your cabin of your dash, and paste them on here so we can see what you got goin on and identify possible mods. maybe by doing that we can help.

I hope so. I do think some of the stuff the guy said was true. But the boost thing is weird as crap. There is a boost gauge. Its the pro-comp or whatever. But I didn't see a controller.

But yeah. Looking at the gauge in first it never really builds up, then you go into second and its all there. Someone suggested that I just had a huge hot side on the turbo. I don't think thats it. I haven't looked. I've been trying to get the dang fuel fixed. LOL

I'll try to get pics.

if possible, ask the guy...if he avoids you like the plague then there is probably something wrong with the setup...he did it for a reason (whether he knew or didnt know what he was doing)...maybe he will explain what he achieved or was trying to achieve and you can go from there...still sounds screwy to me...however ive had my car tuned twice (road race and extreme autoworks) and both places have changed around my vacuum setup according to the type of tune they were doing...i had my wg off of the j-pipe barb from the extremepsi 2g install kit and RRE removed it and ran a tee to my IM with one line going to my greddy bov and the other to my mbc then to my wg..they then ran a line from my j-pipe barb to the bottom barb on my bov...they said it gives the bov a better vacuum/boost signal and can respond better..my bov is like 10 times louder now (could care less if it even made any sound) but the car runs like a dream...again depends on the way its being tuned...

I recall you mentioning you had Evo 550 injectors, do you know this for a fact?
ok and you also mentioned you had a walbro 255FP? if this is true then look for a FPR(fuel pressure regulator), normally located in our engine bay on the firewall in the break fluid resovior area.

At the moment I do not have a way to do a leak test. I will need to make a tester.

This is really the only pic I have at the moment.

The guy claims that he had evo 560 injectors put in yes. And yes I do have a 255. He said he had one and it was going out so I replaced it with a new one. And I only have a stock fpr. I just ordered an AFPR about 2 hours ago.

And for what its worth, this is a 6 bolt swap.

Where's that fourth line going where your bov and wastegate lines meet going off to the right??And what is that little gold box where they meet up??Cant tell by the pic...

You can definitely tell you have stock fpr its at the end of the fuel rail not on the firewall

That "fourth" line is cylinder 4 plug wire LOL.

And the little gold box thing is the 3 way T. It looks like a piece that you would get with a manual boost controller. But I can't seem to find a controller on the car.

Just from what I can see on this pic, you already have 2 reasons for a fishy idle and boost. I notice your BOV is NOT recirculated, and yet it has a stock MAF. Im sure if you recirculate that BOV it will make your car run better.

also you can just run a 190FP with your 560cc injectors no problem. but if you plan going bigger later on then good move with buying the AFPR :D

I have a 255 FP. And yes. I did notice that it is not recirc. I will be fixing that too.

then Im sure its safe to say we now know the reason why your car isn't running right.

#1 free venting your BOV with out the supporting mods

#2 running a fuel pump too big for a stock fpr

let us know how it runs after you fix those problems, Im sure it will be all good after that :thumb:

Sounds good. I will work on getting this things taken care of and hopefully I'll be sitting right. I am waiting on the downpipe to come in so I can get the wideband in. I know I know. WTF??!?! No wideband? He had a narrow band but I still hate it. My innovate is going in asap.

The 255 wont over run the the stock fpr for a good while. I should know, i've been running a stocker for the past 2 months on a 255 with no issues....yet. Its only a matter of time before it over runs it though.

He claims that the FP had been in there for 2 1/2 years. So I could see how it just over did it.

wideband huh, you my friend are off to a good start with the route your taking :thumb:

now just make sure you get it running good while its still pretty close to stock before you start piling on mods dude.

we don't know how long the previous owner had been running the that 255 on the stocker fpr so its just safe for him to either go to 190 or go AFPR. Just to be safe and so he doesn't have to worry about anything later on down the road.

Alright, from what I see there are definitely a couple things wrong here. All of which circled in yellow.

1. As mentioned before, your blow off valve is not recirculated. In case you did not know, it should be. This can cause a couple different problems. So, unless you are running a GM MAF or speed density, you should get that recirculated. I know that the Greddy-RS or knockoff, whichever you have, do not come with recirculation kits.

2. The nipples that you have on the intake, they should be capped off if not in use. It would not be a boost leak, but more of a vacuum leak.

3. You have your wastegate t'd off into your blow off valve. This is not the proper way of sourcing a vacuum trace. Your blow off valve should have its own independent line, to ensure proper function. The best spot for a wastegate to read a boost source is the closest to the turbo as you can get it. Something like a J-pipe nipple would be ideal. It is not hard to get one welded on.

Okay so for the record. You guys are the most helpful and respectful people I've ever been apart of. My other forums, especially my 240 forum is for immature delinquents LOL.

And yes. I do know cars and I have a buddy who has had some extremely unfortunate strokes of luck with his GSX. I don't want to go down that same road.

I don't plan to do anything to the car until the car is running solid for a long time. I have the 240 to tinker with LOL. This was supposed to be my DD. LOL

Yeah I need to recirc. I will be fabbing something up soon. My buddy actually pointed out the nipples on the intake. He reminded me they need to be capped off.

And there is a nipple on the J pipe right under the upper radiator hose.

I really do appreciate the help!
