Alright guys, We are installing a 20g turbo on one of our 2g eclipses here at the shop. We have a 2g heavily ported manifold with hks external wastegate.

Today when we went to finish the install we realized the wastegate is hitting on the radiator.

What do you guys think the easiest (cost effective) solution is?

Buy new radiator and fans?

Buy New manifold?

Eliminate 1 fan?

Purchase slim fans and modify existing setup?

Thanks

(keep in mind the below picture the manifold is not flush to the head)

Fully bolt up the exhaust manifold and recheck clearances. I would just eliminate the a/c fan or a/c all together.

Im thinking about killing the a/C fan but A/C is a must haha... The summers are way to hot and this isnt our track car.

How bad does it hit the fan? Any way you could trim the shroud and get the necessary clearance? That would be the cheapest solution. After that I would say ditch the stock fan and go slimfan, pusher in front of the rad if needs be.

How much do you want to spend? This is pretty baller but A) it might not clear your setup and B) It's $350. It is shrouded though, which is a plus. Otherwise I also like regular FAL fans.

Those fans you posted the link of kahl are good, but cost-wise, the PR kit does the same thing for a great price and the option of the shroud on their kit still keeps the kit under "bargain" status.

The shroud isnt a problem, You actually gave me and idea of a product we can produce out of Carbon Fiber. Im going to pull the fan tomorrow and see if i can even squeeze a slim fan in.

Sure hope so

Alright, After squeezing it by the top of the radiator I managed to Get the correct fitment. Im going to use a Aftermarket 10" fan. Thanks for all the input guys ;)

What about doing a 12" Pusher setup? I had the same issue with my external gate (Tial 38mm on Punishment o2). I just bought the Punishment Radiator (or CX Racing, same thing) and set up a pusher on the a/c side... just a thought. I did the pusher so I didn't have to worry about fitment at all.

I had almost identical clearance issues with my external. I just mounted my fans in front of the radiator. Had no problems with heat so far, but I don't have A/C either.

I got my fans from Summit Racing. Maybe $120 for a 10" and an 8" fan.

That manifold is really setup for a 1g. For the amount of stuff your hacking up for a small 20g turbo I would look at fixing it another way.

Either block the wastegate there and mount something on the turbine housing that fits. Or sell that manifold and gate to a 1g guy, then buy a plain manifold and o2 housing with external provisions.

Keeping the factory fan is 10x better. Ebay fans flow like crap compared to stockers.

somewhat older thread but instead of posting a new one and getting it merged...

im having fitment issues with my PR 38mm o2 housing external dump and my dual FAL fans...
st alittle upset because i bought these fans so i wouldn't have to run a pusher on the front of the radiator and remove the AC... its obvious im going to have to run a different fan setup, any suggestions without running a pusher? (remember im running a 16g so clearance on the j-pipe is necessary too)

looks great on the floor in my bedroom...

Why are you opposed to a pusher setup? I have dual pusher fans on mine and have no problems with it. It gave me a serious amount of room to for my 44mm gate.

im not opposed to it i just don't want to get rid of the A/C...

I just ditched the A/C fan. If you want to go extreme go with a civic half size radiator. I've been running just one fan for about a yr and a half with zero issues. I aldo removed my A/C since I never used it.

i fixed the issue this week. those dual FAL fans come in at $350 thats why i was so disappointed the wg wouldn't clear!
here are pictures of the setup, i just finished up last night. before i get shit for the stock dp let me just say that ive got a 3" cat delete apexi it just needs cut to fit up with the hks catback im running. that stock dp is getting taken care of tomorrow...
basic A/C components removed

Wtf that looks like it has more clearance then my new MVS setup. I got the MVS cause its supposed to be compact to save room. Well it saves NONE. There is ONE inch of clearance by the radiator. Damn wastegates.
