external wastegate or internal wastegate?

I'm buying a super 20g from godspeedperformance and they come internally wastegated, I want to go external but on their site they say how the internal wastegate is going to improve the turbos performance. I don't know if I should stay internal or continue with my path. I want to push as many pounds of boost I can get out of it, and I know going external is better for that right? Just looking for some input, thanks

External gates are usually better at controlling boost when sized properly for the application.

I wouldn't buy that turbo if you're planning on pushing more than 15psi of boost. That is a cheap knock off copy of the Hahn Super 20G.

Definitely is. I "" everytime I see someone with a Godspeedracing sticker on their car. If you talk to Austin Blake Cole on this site he will sell you a rebuilt 20g. He sells great products and I plan on buying one shortly.

Or you could buy a brand new one from FP for $539 and use an external off of one of godspeed's T3 manifolds. Then you'd just have to worry about mating a downpipe to the T3 turbine housing.

...you could also just swap it into an ebay 16G turbine housing and use the stock stuff.

...Or you could buy a brand new one from FP for $539 and find a used MHI 7cm turbine housing for under $100....many members on here have these laying around from older blown turbos. So for less than $650 you'd have a brand-new DSM bolt-on internally-gated 20G with a downfiring compressor cover, eliminating the need for a j-pipe.

I'm sorry but that's the most ridiculous bullshit I've ever seen. How can an internal gate improve performance? If anything it's going to blow open sooner, not allowing you to run an excessive boost pressure which would cause their shitty, Chinese turbo to explode.

Yeahhh....it's not like I've been putting 7cm DSM housings on Hahn 20G's for the past seven years.

Actually the first time I did such a thing I used a Bullseye Power TD05H housing which I'm pretty sure is discontinued. This would be circa 2005.

I had a PM earlier from someone looking for a real Hahn 20G, do you know anyone that still sells them?

The turbo that FP sells is the real Hahn 20G....the only thing Hahn did differently (aside from clocking the housings) was machine a flat spot on the back of the turbine housing to clear the balance shaft tube on the block, as well as machine a flat spot on the compressor cover to clear the water pipe when used on the factory manifold with their adapter plate.

Sorry to thread hijack, but the 20g from FP can have a 14b/16b compressor side put on and bolt right up to a stock manifold? Also, what are the HP numbers it can produce? I assume the same as the super 20g since it's basically the same thing?

Why would you want a 14B compressor cover on a 20G?

A 20G compressor is a 20G compressor is a 20G compressor. Doesn't matter if it's sold by FP, Hahn, or any other vendor....it will produce the same airflow, as well as the same HP.

You shouldn't be using a 14B 6cm turbine housing on a 20G; you'd be coaxing it to surge with such a quick-spooling housing. I would only use a 7cm or 8cm DSM bolt-on housing on a 20G.

Yeah I found the 7cm housing that FP sells on their site. I plan on buying the 20g and the bolt on housing. Thanks
