I brought my talon into the local exhaust shop and asked "hey, you guys bend 3" pipe" They said yeah, then looked outside and said "not for that car though" I explained it was turbo, and what not. Bigger is better on turbo cars. They go on about how some other kid in my town (the talon genius in their eyes, LOL) got 2.5" from them and was happy. So I settled and made an appointment for 2.5" tomorrow then walked out. w/e

They quoted me $140 for the 2.5" and I'm happy with the price, but the more I think about it., I keep saying if I'm paying for it, why not just go 3"

The car doesn't need exhaust. The stock setup is fine. This is a performance upgrade only (sound too I guess) I'm the customer, right? The way I see it, If I don't need the service, why settle? My car isn't owned by this other kid, and I'm not trying to build it to be like his. So what if he got 2.5" exhaust.

So what do you guys think. Just go for it because its a good price, or say I'm the customer, 3" or nothing! Opinions would be cool, what would you all do?

Do they make a 2 3/4" pipe? Would it even make a difference between 2.5 and 3"?

Yes they make 2.75 pipe I've seen it a few places, but like most of us will say go with 3 inches and call it a day..For even 200 bucks that not a bad idea..There gonna do a turbo back?

Get 3" or do business elsewhere. They should have no problem bending a 3" catback exhaust setup for a AWD DSM, look at mine for example, how many bends are there anyway?

Don't go to any shop that says they can't do a 3" exhaust for our cars, or if you can't leave it alone, go with multiple printouts of 3" exhausts sold mainstream for our cars.

If they want business they will do what customer wants. (Period).

If they want business they will do what customer wants. (Period).

That's what I'm thinking. And everyone else seems to be saying the same.

I heard something like bending 3" pipe can cause kinks with a smaller machine? But 3-4 tiny bends cant be that bad.

I think Im on the same page as you guys. I just hope he doesn't jack the price for 3" vs 2.5". Should I bail if he says more than like $180 What would you guys pay? (cat back by the way)

Thanks all, big time help

Edit:

Ebay is always a good idea for exahust..But shipping can kill you..

I was thinking ebay too, but got a quote for in town custom just for kicks, and the price here seems like it beats ebay. Far as I can tell that is.

They said yes they bend 3" pipe, but not for your car, which means they have the machine to do it, they are just being ignorant.

Well the cost of piping is alot different for 2.5 and 3 inch..So you might be looking at above 10 bux a foot for piping..

It can't be too hard to have two bends like gofers exhaust..

Go 3". you will not be dissappointed. 3" is perfect for our cars, especially if you feel the need (which you will) later to start upgrading other stuff, then it will help out even more, no sense in settling, your paying the bill, i think they are just not wanting to do 3", i have heard of shops not wanting to bend it for whatever reason, but i say if htey wont do it then take your business elsewhere.

The only shops around here do crush bends. I would not pay $50 for chrush bent pipe on my car.

Your right there. I bet it is crush bent here too. But with how minor the bends are, looking at goofer's car (love that undercarriage btw) it shouldn't be that bad of a crush??

So $180 would be the max I should go? Im using my muffler which is ~3" o.d. (not sure what the i.d. is)

Press bent piping is just fine. We have run it on numerous cars for a long time. Anything under $300 is ok by me. But I live in the big city and things are a little higher here. That and I would make my own exhaust(which I have done) anyway.

The only real downside to a 3" exhaust system is possible boost creep issues when attempting to run low boost. A 2.5" system would not have these issues, but then again with a 2.5" system if you ever decide to crank up the boost or get a larger turbo you'd need to buy another exhaust system to keep backpressure under control.
