Ok im back to asking questions about my 92 eagle talon TSI. its awd turbo i had some major problems with running rich. Ended up being a shop towel in the intake from the previous owner. so I'm still running a little rich so it seems, and when i start it up it sounds like its running on 2 cylinders until it warms up. i found a decent sized crack on the exhaust manifold, not a hole yet but i crack probably 3 to 4 inches long. now is that why its running a little rich, and the bad start up until its warmed up? cause i have checked the turbo no play side to side and up and down and it spins freely. i tryed a turbo leak test i didnt hear any leaks. and i just went through and got new spark plugs and wires, checked the resistance of the injectors, new valve cover gasket. once warmed up its doesnt misfire, or really stutter but i think there is more power to be had and i think the exhaust manifold is the culprit. im planing on either a quick weld job until i can afford 2nd gen manifold. thanks

Check for signs of a leaking or blown head gasket? have any oil in your coolant? when its cold is the exhaust smell funny? Its possible the head gasket is leaking until it gets hot and the head expands........

no antifreeze in the oil, the exhaust kinda smells like laquery gas. which it ran very rich especially when that shop towel was in the air canister. once it warms completely up it defintely sounds and drives much better.

does it go thru antifreeze? i had one that did this. It would run horrible until it warmed up.Then it was fine.It would use a quart or so a month, and I drove it until I got around to replacing engines.

nope it seems pretty buttoned up i was running oil until i changed the valve cover gasket. i did just notice a puff of smoke from my turbo though. i think tommorow im going to get that manifold welded just for now and see where its coming from. i know the smoke that came out of there was blue which is oil. im hoping i dont have to replace the turbo.

is there anyway to test an o2 sensor. i got a voltmeter. or should i take it out and check it over??

ok so an update. i got the exhaust manifold off. its cracked on the out side from top to bottom. put some wd40 on it. leaks where the web is in between. i checked the waste gate cause i dont think i have been hearing my turbo spool, only every once and a while. and my waste gate opens normally. sssoooo im stumped i still have the exhaust manifold off. going to wank my 02 sensor and see how bad that is. but i have no idea whats wrong with my car. i dont think that little crack it making that big of a difference. i think another boost leak test is in order after i throw everything back in. but yeah im one stumped guy. if the o2 sensor was fouled making it run rich would that mess with my over all power???? and my turbo should i finish breaking down the exhaust to check the other side of the turbo???? and there is a puff of blue smoke coming from the turbo when i give it gas. is that a warn out turbo seal??? sorry for all the questions. like i said im one confused guy LOL. again with everything on no check lights. LOL annoying almost makes me wish i had a coded to go on LOL. thanks everyone

You lose a ton of exhuast pressure with a crack that big. YOur spool will be slow and your o2 sensor will have in accurate readings. That might be why your car is running rough... Fix the manifold and let us know how it goes. Ill have a mild ported 2g mani that is coming off real soon. fp race mani in my room LOL.

LOL i want, im going to get it welded and see what happens. im going to take a pic of where i say the blue smoke come out of and post back. asap LOL

ok damn damn damn thank god i went to get pics of that cause i found anouther big crack. its right after the turbo. i got the pics. the other crack was below the exhaust manifold the next piece thats connected to the turbo. what a doozy. so im thinking thats where the blue smoke was coming from gunna get it off. either tonight if i find the energy LOL or tommorow morning. another weld job. blah my poor dsm
