I've done all my base upgrades and all I have left is the turbo and the things that go with it. Going to buy this within two weeks probably. I have some very important questions before I do though...

I am going to be buying everything off of SBR so I had a question about the 2g install kit. I just want to make sure that I will not have to buy a LICP (using the stock intercooler for now) if I get the install kit.. Is this so?

I am doing things in stages so without putting in the afc will I be safe to run at 16psi with the new turbo until then? Would running at 16psi with the 16g be any different than running it with the t25?

How much do you recommend the "$100 Upgrade" shown here >> http://www.slowboyracing.com/more.php?id=93&??

Thank you in advance for the replies.

No, it will be higher. Exhaust manifold pressure can be as high as 2x boost pressure.

I caught that booboo - see EDIT. Is it only 2x? Just curious.

Better bet is to find a 2 port wastegate actuator so the boost pressure tries to hold the gate shut.

I wondered about such a device. Good to know they exist.

As you imply, you don't get something for nothing. A longer lever would mean less mechanical advantage to keep that 46lb from prying your wastegate open.

I think you mean shorter. A longer lever gives you more mechanical advantage but less rotation of the lever (and less opening of the WG flapper). But I suspect you just mistyped.

Use the Evo III manifold instead and you get a perfect match. I don't think it needs to be larger than that. At most you might have two exhaust pulses going through the collector at once (probably one, but they aren't exactly equal length). There is more than enough room for them to fit through the collector of an Evo III manifold.

Or port your 2g mani for much cheaper (if you have the tools).

And if you use the Evo III manifold, you get to use the cool sealing ring to stop exhaust leaks at that gasket.

Can't argue with that. I'm still at low boost, so I have no idea if mine will leak at higher back pressure. No leaks now, though.

So my question in all of this, though, is can you address creep on an evo3 at low boost by addressing the inadequacies of the WG actuation without touching the flapper? If the flapper isn't opening very much, maybe that's the problem that needs fixed. This sounds fairly inexpensive (a guess) but could let someone start out with an evo3 at low boost and work their way up as experience, desire, and funds increase.

Yeah, I meant shorter. :) Doh!

Believe me, I had all sorts of ideas to hold high boost and open the wastegate further. Some were pretty radical. Turns out that I didn't need to use any of them.

But do you think that an actuator that opens the stock flapper 90* would help with low boost pressure creep on an evo3? This assumes that this hypothetical actuator would also be able to hold the same back pressure as the stock setup.

Wow.. I haven't been getting email notifications since the end of the first page.... My eyes are hurting, LOL..

I have a few questions and comments...

First.. I remember asking about the wastegate flapper before.. In my mind it made no sense to get a bigger one because in my mind it could only make it worse, if anything. That seems to be the common opinion of everyone.

Second... I am buying off of slow boy and I wanted to know if teh 34mm option is just for the flapper or what? Do they actually port the wastegate section?

I really would tend to think that porting the wastegate is helpful because of how many people talk about it. Depending on what slowboy offers, I might just get it ported so I can be in between stock and a all out porting job. I am not planning on running very low boost for a long time... it all has to do with time. I am putting on the EVOIII mani, EVOIII o2 housing, and turbo all at once, but that def. won't leave any time time for the 660 injectors and the tuning involved (getting afc at same time too) for those injectors, expecially because it is going to be my first time tuning...

How safe would it be with my current setup and all the upgades I just mentioned in the above paragraph, to run 18-20 psi?
