I'm using a small 16g right now. It pulls pretty good but I want to upgrade. Would there be a considerable amount of difference in power? Would it be worth almost 600 to go with the EvoIII? And how do you think it'll react to my mods?

Oh yea, is it a complete bolt on? To the stock exhaust manifold and such? I already have the oil return/feed line and all the stuff needed to do the 16g install.

The power difference would be noticable, but not worth the price to upgrade. If you're going to upgrade, spend a few hundred more and get a t3/t4 setup or a 20g. Evo 16g and 20g would both bolt on and use the same oil lines as your small 16g, the t4 you would need a new exhaust manifold.

come on now adam, me, manny and a couple others right around you are running an evo. yes it bolts up the exact same as your small 16g, and yes youll be able to make almost 100hp more with the evo (with supporting mods of course)

Yeah

I just got the EVO III manifold and going to be getting the EVO 16G within the month. I going for a good base to build my mods on. From what I've read the EVO is going to be perfect for the auto-xing I want to do.

If you go EVO 16G... it will be worth it to upgrade the stock manifold. I just got my evo manifold off ebay for $162.

I have a question regarding the EVOIII Turbo. As you can see, I have this turbo...

I also have the EVO Manny, and O2 Housing both ported. My first time at the track minus the mods in my signature amounted to a 13.9. I was running 17-18psi. I couldnt run any higher because of fuel cut. My question is does this turbo really "kick in" at or above 18psi? I think I read somewhere that it doesnt really start to make power until your at 20+ PSI. Can someone verify this? I am in the process of intalling this FMIC and 2.5" piping so I am hopeful that this will wake this turbo up.

Thanks...any and all feed back is appreciated.

No the turbo kicks in when it hits 1psi. But of course the higher the psi the more power it will make. but 20+ psi is definately a good ingredient for good track times.

Nice...you know what I meant...

I am talking about this turbo specifically. We know the T-25 dies at about 15-17psi...I am just trying to figure this out. If I need to run above 20-21psi I need additional fuel mods.

Whats up with my pictures...they are around for about 10 minutes then they are gone?

I'm really debating on whether I should get this turbo in a couple of weeks or just waiting until my tax returns to get the 50 trim kit.

I wouldn't upgrade to an evo16G from a small16G unless the turbo was dying. I really doubt you would feel your money was well spent... the difference wouldn't be that much...

How much more hp would I expect to gain from a t3/t4 50trim setup?

Depends on boost level, supporting mods, etc..., there is no easy answer to a question like that. But the 50 trim is good for around the 425-450hp, perhaps more. It just depends on what options you go for when ordering it.

On a side note, the Evo III B16G reaches its peak efficiency around the 24-25 psi range. The small 16G reaches its maximum efficiency around the 21-22psi range.

Not _TOO_ much of a difference. I need bigger gains so I think I'll wait. Thanks for the help guys.

Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks

I would suggest a 50trim or a larger turbo than the evo16g if you already have a s16g and want more. Reading up on them both you would get some nice gains out of the evo at 20+ psi but for the money your throwing down for the evo16g you should just hold out a little bit longer and then step up a notch higher than the evo 16g.

Yup, going to have to take out a 2G loan. :D

Can anyone refer a site to me where they offer the complete 50trim kit?

http://www.rnrracing.com/cgi-bin/ccp5/cp-app.pl

Exact link? http://www.rnrracing.com/cgi-bin/cc...ref=tk1&cat=turbokit&catstr=HOME:DSM:turbokit

The kit does include some very nice items but don't forget some kits you will have to purchase additional items (intake, anything else you need) that aren't listed there.

I don't know of many "50trim kit" vendors. or um...

Only two I can think of.

since the thread is entitles evoIII 16g question, i will ask a question about it as well (not trying to hijack)
if it is supposed to be BETTER then the regular Big16g...why does it cost less?

It flows more; weighs less; spools faster; higher HP capability...IMO, if you are not looking to get into the 11's or high 10's you dont need a 50 trim or larger turbo. First off, you need to spend a ton more on supporting mods...those larger turbos dont like to spool under 3k rpm so you be beating your engine trying to keep in a specific rpm range. Keep in mind, the evoIII spools as fast or faster then a 14G, has the capability to flow as much as an 18G/20G; yet still maintains the factory look. Just my thoughts...

Hm, would it be necessary to have a FMIC w/ a 50trim setup?

And what are all the supporting mods you need?

...Absolutely...a big bi*** too and huge piping to match. Basically you'd want a FMIC over the stock unit eitherway.

You'll need fuel, and more fuel. SAFC, whatever logging support works on the 2G's, waste gate, manifold to match the turbo...just look at the tuning guides. I also just noticed your FWD so you might want to invest in LSD and some slicks.

112mph vs 118mph. I feel my money was well spent when I upgraded from the small to the Evo. :)
